The tree is quite spectacular, especially when it's flowering.. It has big red spikey flowers on it and is known as the blood tree by maori here.. How early or late in the season the tree flowers depends on the weather, if it flowers early, we know we'll get a long, hot dry summer, late and it'll be an average summer.. This link explains some of the maori custom and such around the tree, an interesting read if you have a little time.. This link explains a little about the tree being a christmas tree here, and briefly explains why it is also called the blood tree, or got the name of the blood tree.. |
