Mobility scooters in the shops.

This is one thing that surprised me, both my local supermarkets let those folk use their scooters in the shops, I've even been to the bank and been allowed to take it in..

The supermarkets don't mind as long as we go slowly and don't knock over the elderly folk, they realise we need to get shopping to, so are happy to let us in, the aisles are wide enough to make enough room for people with trolleys and scooters to get past each other easily enough, the only time it's a bit difficult is when someone parks a trolley in the middle of an aisle and then blocks a big space on one side of it, it means no one gets past until they wake up and move, just a bit inconsiderate in my opinion seeing as they could move the trolley to the side of an aisle..

I've yet to see any damage caused by someone on a mobility scooter in the supermarkets, usually it seems it's the people with the trolleys that bump into things or accidentally hit one of the old folk.. It's good to be able to use the scooters in the supermarkets because most here are fairly big, so it makes it really hard to walk round, especially as none have seats in the shops...

So far I've only had two smart asses while in the shops, both asked me about indicators.. One person was serious and asked why I don't have and use indicators on the scooter, I replied by saying I'd get indicators for the scooter when he got indicators for his trolley seeing I had to play dodgems with him down three different isles in the shop..

One other person suggested having indicators may be handy, I agreed, but wondered how many people would see them given how low they'd have to be to not get damaged and stay attached to the scooter..

The shop staff are good about the scooters though, they'll always help load the groceries into the big bag I have after they've packed them up.. None of the shop staff ever get smart about people being on scooters, it's always the shoppers, even when they walk backwards and walk into you...
