First be must be 35 years old,A natural born citizen of the United States, and A resident of the US for 14 years.

Primaries and Caucuses

There are many people who want to be president, each of these people have their own ideas about how our government should work. People with similar ideas belong to the same political party, this is where primaries and caucuses come in. Candidates from each political party campaign throughout the country to win the favor of their party members.

Caucus: In a caucus, party members select the best candidate through a series of discussions and votes.

Primary: In a primary, party members vote for the best candidate that will represent them in the general election.

National Conventions

Each party will hold a national convention so they can finalize their presidential nominee. At the convention the presidential candidate will choose a running mate.(vice president)

General Election

The presidential candidates campaign all over the United States, in an attempt to win over the peoples votes.People in every state across the country vote for one president and one vice president. When people cast their vote, they are actually voting for a group of people known as electors.

There will be more to come.

I think they kept mentioning delegates throughout the run for Clinton and Trump, are the delegates party members?..

Yes and they vote for the particular candidate based on preferences of the voters of their state.

To understand it a little better go here and read it will explain better.

We will go in November to cast are vote for who we want to be president. That will be the last we have to do in it.

Every state has what they call Electoral College that is each state gets a certain number of electors, based on each state's total number of representation in Congress.

Each elector casts one electoral vote following the general election; there are a total of 538 electoral votes. The candidate that gets more than half (270) wins the election.

Then in January the President elect and Vice President elect will take the oath.

I remember it's standard practise for the outgoing pres to show the incoming the ropes between November and the new year when the incoming is sworn in..

I think that is right.

I know it's standard practise here, people like the Prime Minister and finance minister will get anyone new to the job up and running, the idea being there's supposedly less hold ups in the change over when a new party is elected or someone else from the same party takes over a new position..

That makes since to do that. IMO if they did not do that the new president would be flying blind not knowing what exactly was going on. So it makes since as with any job you get training in the job.

More being brought up to speed on whatever is being done, or about to be done and how to do it I guess..

You are probably right on that, seems how they know some of what is going on all they would need is the basics of why and how.

One thing I often wonder about is why an election can be such a knock down dragged out thing, it seems the candidates sped more time bad mouthing each other than they spend telling folk what they'll do for them if they get into office..

IMO they just want their names out there as much as possible. I could live without the name calling and character flaws of each one running, I am more interested in what are they going to do for the country when and if they do get to be president. They are just that way though and this one seems far worse then other elections.

It seems to me that attacking a person rather than their policies is uncalled for and not needed, any campaign should be about what the person can do to improve things for everyone, not resorting to name calling or calling into question a persons sanity, or lack of, maybe that's why I haven't watched much about the presidential race for a while now..

I agree and until they start talking like real inteligent people I am not going to watch any of them. I don't need the drama in my life. We need a President that is going to address real problems instead of name calling and finger pointing.

At the moment it seems to be a two horse race, I know which I'd back if I lived there..

I doubt there's enough of them to see him get into office now, if the polls I've seen lately are believable he's losing popularity by the day..

Yes he is and he also talks kinda crazy to me, I will not be voting for him.

I think he makes a good businessman, no doubt his bank accounts will testify to that but IMHO he needs to learn to be a bit more.. diplomatic if he wants to be president and be a lot less blunt in the way he says things..

I just know that IMO he isn't ready to be president of the United States.

I'm not sure if either are really, I guess she's had the benefit of being secretary of state, so as long as she learned something in that time she has a slight advantage.. I guess she's the lesser of two evils..

I just wish they would stop the name calling and get down to the issues at hand.

Any election should be about policies and not running down your opponents, it's a pity there isn't rules about this..

I think it would be good if they had rules they had to follow. You are right it is supposed to be about politics, instead of name calling.

Our government has a thing called 'parliamentary privilege', so basically the MP's can say what they like in parliament and not be prosecuted for it, I don't like the idea myself..

I know what they are doing seems so wrong to me, but apparantly they are allowed to do it. Even if the people don't like it.
