What is life? Who are we? What is it we are meant to be? In this world, You and I, Why can I see you in my eye? Who brought us to this harsh world When and where was life unfurled? When did man rise above all else? Why do we believe that which we have proven false? These are the questions I ask myself When I am sick and when I'm in health Why do people belong on this earth? Why is there pain? Why is there mirth? Were we all sent here for a reason? Why are there years, why are there seasons? This is my reflection on life That which is filled with happiness and strife That to which we surrender all of our days Is life a road, or more of a maze? No one can answer these questions I ask Wisdom is superficial; intelligence a mask Ask any of the brightest minds here today Any of these questions; they wont know what to say. Maybe they'd give a scientific explanation That they inferred through sheer concentration, But those are just guesses waiting to be disproved Our theories shot down, our perceptions removed. Some people turn to a higher belief Some people blindly obey their chief But others ask questions, open up doors But each step forward takes us back five more. Why do we work? Why do we play? Couldn't we all just get killed off one day? Why keep going? Obsessed with knowing? When each day we find something new growing? Is it cause we must? Or is it just the fact that we live most of our lives without truly knowing? In my opinion I think we are here To learn how to live, to face our fears. And I don't believe it matters that much whether we know everything and such.. because some things you must accept as unsolvable some questions are just truly unanswerable like where we find love? What causes us to Have someone to think of Something to hold on to When we need a hand A hug, a heart And then why some are bland and others cruel at heart. What do we know? In essence, nothing. What do we need? In essence, nothing. What do we see? In essence, nothing. What do we feel? In essence, everything What is the point of this poem, you ask? If I go by my theories, it is pointless. I write it because I think society is a mask. And all these debates are truly quite hopeless. Live your life. See your sights. Sharpen your senses. Sleep your nights. And above all life life to its fullest. Don't waste your day Seeing who is the dullest. Squabbles, arguments, anger to boot Its all well and good till someone starts to shoot. Don't just imagine things...go out and see them! In its simplest form, CARPE DIEM! |
