This was supposed to be my script for script frenzy. But I only have 6 pages and it's already the middle of April (You need 100 pages to 'win'). Formatting this to DPS is really weird, but I did my best to keep it in a proper format. My screenplay is about this guy named Aeolus, who lives in modern times despite his very ancient greekish (it is a word) name. He goes to school and his thoughts are usually preoccupied with impressing this girl, Lavinia. His string of life gets knotted and morphed with two other strings by the Fates, who happen to be arguing at that moment. He dies shortly after that. Well, he ends up in the Underworld and is summoned by Hades and Persephone who will explain about his String of Life... and yeah, thats where this scene starts. This scene and it revolves around the Adonis myth in Greek mythology. It's long but I'll be very happy if you read the whole thing. ;) INT. TOMBGHAST – GARDEN – TIME IS INDICERABLE Though a perpetual darkness covers the garden, flowers and plants still grow. AEOLUS is waiting for an audience with the King and Queen of the Underworld. AEOLUS (A patch of ruby red anemone catches his eye) Lavinia would love these! Even the darkest hue of red from a rose couldn’t match this shade! (Picks one) She has to see one! PERSEPHONE enters PERSEPHONE We’re ready for – Mother of Cronus! What have you done?! AEOLUS Only picked a flower… PERSEPHONE Oh no, you did more than that! (Snatches the anemone) In your ignorance, you plucked a part of my son! My poor Adonis! AEOLUS makes an attempt at apologizing to the Queen. PERSEPHONE sits on a bench, mourning the memory of Adonis. PERSEPHONE I hope you’ll understand - if it were another flower, I wouldn’t have acted so… AEOLUS I- I'm sorry. I didn't know The Rich One and your Majesty shared a child. PERSEPHONE Ah, no. My Hades was never so inclined. Adonis was not of my flesh and blood. Yet, he was my child still. EXT. FLASHBACK - A BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT GARDEN – DAY Gifts and more are placed haphazardly around a whicker baby cradle. BABY ADONIS lies in the cradle. PERSEPHONE’S voice is heard. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) Though he was born mortal, he was the most beautiful babe. So beautiful in fact to catch the eye of lusty Aphrodite. APHRODITE appears in a small windstorm with blossoms blowing. She walks over to the cradle, fingering the whicker and looking at BABY ADONIS. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) Without a second thought, she steals the poor thing. APHRODITE takes BABY ADONIS and disappears. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) And requests that she meets me. INT. FLASHBACK – TEA ROOM AT TOMBGHAST – CONTINUOUS APHRODITE has the BABY ADONIS wrapped up in a cloth while at the table with PERSEPHONE. APHRODITE I want you to take him. PERSEPHONE Are you out of your mind? A baby in the Underworld? APHRODITE It’s only for a short time…till he comes of age. PERSEPHONE You are mad! You want me to raise a mortal child until he can become your bedmate? Even after Eros gave you a grandchild, you go and do this! Have you no shame? I can’t stand it, give the babe to me. No babe deserves your attention. PERSEPHONE takes BABY ADONIS from APHRODITE, who leaves shortly after. INT. FLASHBACK – TOMBGHAST – CONTINUOUS PERSEPHONE is seen playing with CHILD ADONIS, age 6. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) The trollop was right about one thing though. He was beautiful; it wasn’t hard to love him. So happy against the perpetual gloom; he was my ray of sunshine, my Adonis. EXT. FLASHBACK – A FIELD IN OLYMPUS – CONTINUOUS PERSEPHONE has left the Underworld to visit her mother. She has brought HADES (who brought CERBERUS) and ADONIS, age 15, who has grown as her son, with her. A picnic is spread out. HADES, ADONIS, and CERBERUS are wrestling. PERSEPHONE (to HADES and ADONIS) Stop roughhousing and come and eat. HADES bats CERBERUS away who tries to tackle him as he sits down. CERBERUS runs over to ADONIS and they continue to play. PERSEPHONE (to HADES) Jam on your bread, dear? HADES I think I’ll take butter instead. Bread and butter, after all. PERSEPHONE You should stay at least one more day; Mother will have to accept it eventually. (to ADONIS) Young man, I won’t say it again: come and eat. ADONIS pulls CERBERUS to the ground as he sits down at the blanket. HADES If it wasn’t for work… You know how much I love to piss her off; it’s so easy too. ADONIS Piss off who? As one of CERBERUS’ noses nudges into the picnic basket: PERSEPHONE None of your business. Now eat. Enter APHRODITE in similar whirlwind. She walks over and sits down at the blanket. Two of CERBERUS’s heads growl, the third is still inside the basket. HADES looks away while ADONIS is completely smitten. APHRODITE You plan a picnic and don’t invite me, dear cousin? PERSEPHONE Exactly. It’s a picnic. Not a stripclub. HADES What is it you want? APHRODITE Only my son. PERSEPHONE I must be getting old; I don’t think I heard you correctly. APHRODITE I’ve come for Adonis, Persephone. (to ADONIS) Are you ready? As ADONIS nods his head and stands up. PERSEPHONE (pushes ADONIS down) He’s not going. APHRODITE Who are you to say? PERSEPHONE I’m his mother. I raised him. APHRODITE I found him first! PERSEPHONE He’s not yours! As APRODITE motions towards ADONIS, who is smitten. APHRODITE I wouldn’t be too sure about that. PERSEPHONE Oh, it’s probably indigestion. You know men. HADES cocks his head at PERSEPHONE, a little offended. APHRODITE (Laughs) Indigestion is causing the ogling? I hardly think so, just look at me. (to ADONIS) Well, Adonis, time to go. As ADONIS gets back up and PERSEPHONE pushes him back down. PERSEPHONE No, I refuse! I’m not letting him go. CUT TO: PERSEPHONE in front of ZEUS deciding whom ADONIS will live with in the throne room. APHRODITE, HADES, and ADONIS are all present. ZUES (as he reads in a law book) As law 182 states: ‘Anyone who eats in the Underworld is bound to it.’ Adonis belongs in the Underworld. PERSEPHONE cheers, APHRODITE rolls her eyes, ADONIS is too love-struck to care, HADES tries to hold ADONIS back. ZUES However, this clashes with law 273. It reads: ‘finders keepers, losers weepers.’ PERSEPHONE’S face drops, APHRODITE is smug, and ADONIS and HADES are still the same. ZUES (looks to PERSEPHONE) Eh… well, the last time we had something like this it was with your abduction, Persephone. I can only think of a similar solution. (addresses the room) I decree: the lad’s year to be split between Persephone and Aphrodite. As ZUES’ gavel falls HADES Brother! Wait! Surly the lad must have time of his own. ZUES Well, then it will be split between Aphrodite, Persephone, and himself. Four months to each. ZUES’ gavel finishes falling and they all exit. INT. FLASHBACK – TOMBGHAST – CONTINUOUS As ADONIS is packing up and leaving. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) Because his things were still in Tombghast, Hades and I spent the first four months with Adonis. When he left I was heart broken. In an ironic pattern, nothing grew in my garden the time he was away. He took the life out of me, took everything he learned about love and spent with her…. And I was never to see him again. EXT. FLASHBACK - A FOREST ON EARTH – DAY, CONTINUOUS As ADONIS is dying from being stabbed by stag horns. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) And stupid Aphrodite killed a favorite of Artemis, who in retribution killed Aphrodite’s favorite: My son, Adonis. INT. FLASHBACK - TOMBGHAST – GARDEN – CONTINUOUS As ADONIS’ blood soaks into the ground and rains into the dead garden. PERSEPHONE is wondering around mindlessly, she gets rained upon. PERSEPHONE (O.S.) I knew when it rained what I felt was Adonis. Where every drop that touched my garden’s soil fell a deep red anemone grew in its place. INT. TOMBGHAST – GARDEN – TIME IS INDICERABLE PERSEPHONE and AEOLUS are sitting on a garden bench. PERSEPHONE is fingering the flower. AEOLUS I wish I would have known before… PERSEPHONE Ah, well. No use crying over spilt milk. Since its been plucked, keep it. Let it remind you to keep the ones you love close for they won’t always be with you. (gives AEOLUS the flower) I’ve spent enough time talking, come – we’re ready for you. PERSEPHONE leads AEOLUS into Tombghast. |
