STOP! THIS MAYBE A SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, HAVE NOT SEEN THE MUSICAL Wicked OR LISTENED TO IT'S SOUNDTRACK. READ AT OWN RISK!

Alright. So. Hmm. How to explain this... errm. I'm taking a break from Ella and Serik right now. ((I can't think.)) So I decided to write out one of my more personal moments when I'm being an absolute dork. I've never seen the musical. But I've read the book (so many times) and I listen to the soundtrack almost religiously. So, I meshed my interpretation of the two together. heh.

Uh, sorry if the colors are blinding. I wanted colors that would represent the characters.

Here's a key for easy reference:

Quote:

Glinda, the Good
Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West
Both Glinda & Elphaba
Ozians

It's is purely for entertainment. If you rate, I'll be wondering why you're rating my personal life and I might be a little offended, I haven't decided yet. :P Just enjoy it.

I started on the left of the room when the music filled my mind.

“I hope you're happy!
I hope you're happy now,
I hope you're happy how you
Hurt your cause forever.
I hope you think you're clever!”

I crossed my arms, angry. My regular voice filling into tempo with the song in my head. I was singing Glinda, the Good’s lines, arguing with her green-skinned friend Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

“I hope you're happy.
I hope you're happy, too!
I hope you're proud how you
Would grovel in submission,
To feed your own ambition!”

I dashed to the right side of the room. I made sure Elphaba’s venom matched Glinda’s.

“So though I can't imagine how,
I hope you're happy right now!”

The two witches of Oz shared these two lines. I could see the scene in my mind; both staring each other down, both filled with frustration and anger for the other’s previous actions.

“Elphie, listen to me. Just say you're sorry.” Glinda was the first to soften.

“You can still be with the wizard,
what you’ve worked and waited for.
You can have all you’ve ever wanted…”

I sang clearly for Glinda’s part, trying to erase the anger and replace it with disappointment.

“ I don’t want it – no I can’t want it anymore.”

I spun to the opposite side of the room, singing Elphaba’s lines. Confusion colored my voice as I acted out her feelings.

“Something has changed within me.
Something is not the same.
I’m through with playing by
The rules of someone else’s game…”

Slowly the confusion lifted into a smile near the end when I felt Elphaba should piece together the beginning of her self-confidence.

“Too late for second-guessing,
Too late to go to back to sleep!
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close eyes and leap!”

The song picked up tempo and the chimes joined in, raising the hair on my arms.

“It's time to try defying gravity
I think I'll try defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!”

The chimes had brought a magical quality to the song; it swept Elphaba’s character, she’d never look back now. Her path chosen.

“Can’t I make you understand?
You’re having delusions of grandeur!”

I dashed back to the left side; Glinda, despite her usual disconnection with the world, seemed ironically intent on snapping her friend back into reality.

“I'm through accepting limits
'Cause someone says they're so!
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!”

I spun back over for the Witch’s lines. I spat the verse; frustration and eagerness edged my voice. Elphaba had to convince Glinda!

“Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost.
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!”

I still sang as Elphaba; this time however, her words were directed at herself – convincing herself this was the right thing. She was a practical character that didn’t often get carried away in half-thoughts.

“I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!”

With this verse, I pictured her with confidence in herself. I turned back to where I once stood as Glinda; there was only one thing missing.

I spoke, instead of sang:

“Glinda, come with me. Think of what we could do - together!”

I pleaded; she needed her best friend to accept her choice. I imagined Glinda slowly approaching Elphaba, she looked calmer now that she allowed herself to be taken in by Elphaba’s usually whimsical choice.

“Unlimited.
Together we’re unlimited.
Together we'll be the greatest team
There's ever been.
Glinda -
Dreams, the way we planned 'em!”

My voice was happy, thinking of the possibilities. They were the perfect team, best friends – I felt they could do anything.

“If we work in tandem!”

I stepped to the other side of the room for Glinda’s line; it was a small step now that the two were close. It was a small part but one that made her faith in Elphaba’s cause official.

“There's no fight we cannot win
Just you and I
Defying gravity.
With you and I
Defying gravity!”

They were both singing now, fully trusting in the other. I danced around the room; I didn’t need to stand in any spot for the moment.

“They'll never bring us down!”

Elphaba finished the thought, it was sweet and satisfying.

“I hope you're happy
Now that you're choosing this”

I jumped over to Glinda’s side, wishing her friend well.

“You too.”

I muttered turning back to Elphaba before I sang:

“I hope it brings you bliss.”

“I really hope you get it
And you don't live to regret it.
I hope you're happy in the end
I hope you're happy, my friend.”

Their wishes were truthful and real, fearful and fully confident for the other at the same time. This was the pinnacle of true friendship.

The music picked up again, it was time for the true climax of the song that set the rest of the story into motion. I jumped to Elphaba’s side, arms out wide – I wasn’t able to hold out these notes for long and I was sure I’d crack but I didn’t care. I wasn’t singing the song anymore, Elphie’s passion was.

“So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky!
As someone told me lately:
‘Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly!’

“And if I'm flying solo,
At least I'm flying free!
To those who'd ground me,
Take a message back from me:
Tell them how I am
Defying gravity!
I'm flying high
Defying gravity!
And soon I'll match them in renown!!”

“And nobody in all of Oz -
No Wizard that there is or was -
Is ever gonna bring me down!”

That was it; her previous dreams crushed by a Wizard who wasn’t wonderful. But with the help of her friend, she could be – she’d make her own dreams come true. She felt it with every fiber of her being. It was a wonderful feeling.

The voices of Glinda and misunderstanding Ozian’s filled my mind:

“I hope your happy.”

“Look at her, she's wicked!
Get her!”

However, Elphaba was still belting her determination, I didn’t have time to jump to the side and sing out the actuations.

“No one mourns the wicked
So we've got to bring her…”

“Down!”

The citizens sang out their last note out in unison as Elphie continued her final, groundbreaking note.

The number ended and I fell back into an office chair, gasping for air. My energy was spent. At least for a while. I gave what could be the closest thing to a smile while choking on air, after all, how often did I do this? Ever few hours, I guessed. – I was nothing short of obsessed and I loved every second of it.
