What is the price of freedom?

Personally, I was a little disappointed with it. It was a little too predictable (Except for Bella getting pregnant) then it was way too easy, not to mention anti-climactic... I mean, she got us all hyped up that someone was going to die or that Alice deserted the family or something then nothing went awry. I don't know, I just sort of have an issue with that. Sort of like she wrapped the story up in a little box then made a mess of the wrapping, but once you got past it, it was this perfect little thing... Bella didn't have to go through all nine months of pregnancy, her daughter turns out to be an angel who grows up super fast, so she really doesn't have any strain of motherhood either except for the pregnancy itself which I wouldn't wish on anyone |

I thought it was quite amazing. The pregnancy was a great twist, though I knew the Volturi were going to come and attack since the beginning. The dreams foreshadowed a bit too much. But it was very well told. I thought she couldn't have done a better job writing it. I was hoping for a fight, and was glad that she added all the twists like Alice running away, but resolved it very nicely. Alice was never the type of person to abandon her family. With such gifted parents like Bella and Edward, it's easy to see how Renesmee would be so gifted, along with so many people to raise her, there wouldn't be much an issue with her. Stephenie built up the suspense, and that was enough to make it a powerful resolution. She scattered all of the puzzle pieces before putting them together at the end. People don't have to betray others or die to make a great ending. It was a perfect ending, seeing how it IS a teen romance novel, it wasn't surprising to have Edward and Bella living happily with their family, even though they have to deal with issues that arise. |

Good point about the teen romance novels. I don't read much teen literature, so I suppose I overlooked that point |

I thought it was 'good'. It wasn't great or amazing though. While I'm glad the ending was happy, it didn't have the right weight... After book 2, you didn't hear so much of Seth or Leah. It was just Jacob. The ending really needed more werewolf. Bella's pregnancy was really surprising. I agreed with Jacob 100%, the thing needed to be aborted. I didn't care that Edward could hear her -- it was still killing Bella, after all. I didn't like the monster until Jacob imprinted. Then Nessie was alright. heh. It also kinda weirds me out that Jacob is going to be Bella's son-in-law. But after I thought it over, I guess it doesn't really matter. Just because that's technically what they are/will become, that doesn't define their relationship. To Jacob, Bella will aways be 'just Bella'. ^_^ I thought about pregnancy, in general a lot while I was reading it. I've always favored pro-choice and I've never, ever wanted children myself. And I've always hated how it's the hormones that change they way you feel about motherhood, it's like Life is making the choice for you -- and in Bella's case it blinded her. Her body wasn't letting her be sensible. However (and this is really ironic) when Nessie was born, it angered me to know Bella wasn't allowed to be with her daughter. Personally, if I was Bella, I wouldn't have attacked Jacob for nick-naming her 'Nessie', instead I would have jumped at his throat for keeping my own daughter away from me. Hypocritical, huh? I blame the very, very slim maternal side I own from being female. Victim to my own hormones. Ugh. Everybody knows Stephanie Meyer's is Mormon, right? Well, with the topic of abortion on my mind, it got me thinking how much of this was her belief compared to the reasons presented in the story. Issue 1: Sex. Lets face it, today kids are having sex way more than they did before. And this issue wasn't really addressed until Eclipse and Edward prevented it. Was it because she believes that sex before marriage is a sin or because Edward is old-fashioned and that it hurt Bella to. Issue 2: Abortion. Bella didn't want to abort Nessie even though it was killing her. Is this because abortion is murder in the eyes of the Christian faith or because of Bella's emotions? The reasons why in the story are all solid but I wonder if they were more excuses to avoid it's occurrence. |

She does say that being Mormon doesn't define her it's just her religion, or at least that's what she said in a USA Today article my aunt sent me, though most of the Mormons I've met (Which happen to be quite a few) are completely defined by their religion... I don't know, I'm just saying. I also agree with you, Linden, that the fact that Renesmee was kept from her was quite stupid. I understand at first when she was changing and they didn't know if she would be in control or not, but after Edward's testimony that she was safe around humans then Jacob's test, it's really like "Okay, people, we get it. She's safe." Maybe I've been watching fiveawesomegirls too much, but Edwards character, while amazing at first, is really quite annoying. He really don't have a personality, I mean, did you notice that you've been inside Bella and Jacob's head, but not Edward's? Well, except in Midnight Sun, which doesn't count. I do agree that after Bella was turned, the werewolves were completely downplayed... Again with the neat, tidy box scenario, they were totally against the fact that Renesmee existed until Jacob imprinted on her then they were like. "Oh. Okay. We'll let the vampire's spawn live." It just worked out TOO well. |

Insightful article. Not that this has anything to do with Breaking Dawn, but now I'm really excited:
:o Sequel to The Host? Two sequels?! Dang. I loved The Host, the first chapter gave me chills. |

Yeah... I don't know, I have them all, but it's kind of... I don't know, after series are over sometimes I sort of lose interest in them... And now I'm just annoyed with Edward and Bella. |

I haven't read it. Sadly, I haven't read any book of the series, but I am interested. I'll read the book before I see the movie. |

ok, seriously, Stephony mire is a good writer, she has great ideas, good plots, well developed characters, but Come On! "and they all lived happily ever after..." what! a vampire series with a happy ending? this book was prime for tradgedy and what? allice saves the day while Edward and Bella use their super-vampire powers to protect everyone while the person who made this situation bad in the first place dies. Corny. if you ask me, the Volturi should have obliterated them just as it seemed that Bella's gift would save them. good, but not what I hoped for. |

A vampire story with mass carnage is so over rated. :P Why can't a vampire get a happy ending? heh. |
