How would you go out? Also why would you do it? Has anyone ever thought about it more than is deemed "normal"? :sigh: |

I haven't done it intentionally. Though I did starved myself once over a summer. But it wasn't because I wanted to die. I was too lazy to get off the couch and eat. The hunger pains were that bad though. When I think of suicide, I'm normally happy. (Apparently I'm a scary optimistic.) But I'd go CO poisoning, if anything. Peaceful. The way you should fall into your last slumber. |

Self-immolation seems pretty metal. If I had to die in any way, suicide or not, I'd die while locked in an epic battle royale with all of Hell's demons howling to the sounds of Dream Evil and DragonForce... Yeah |

*interesting fact: CO poisoning isn't always painless.... hallucinations and severe headaches have been reported to occur... just as a P.S. D. Black, you would go out like that ;) |

I wouldn't commit suicide. It's probably the most irresponsible and juvenile thing someone could do. To selfishly take your life because you can't see an immediate resolution to your problems, and to deprive those people who truly love you (whether they show it or not) of yourself, is an eternal slap in the face to God (or whatever higher power you believe in) and everyone around you. |

In Western society. For a samurai in defeat to commit suicide is honorable. But I still don't agree with your statement. It ignores those who contemplate suicide because of psychological disorders or from medication. To call their suicide selfish is unfair. While there are varying degrees of mental illnesses, some don't possess the ability to see other solutions. They're not some highschool kid with a few problems. Suicide is such a large category anyway. You can't sum it up in a nice little paragraph. You have differnt cultural views on it, self sacrifice for a loved one, committing suicide for an idea and more situations. These could be seen, like the samurai, as honorable. |

The samuria, I read about that once before, I thought it was pretty neat that someone would actually kill themselves (I don't mean that in a sadistic way either) for something they've trained for and believed in all those years... If you think about it, now'a'days, who would actually do that? O.O Most people are too in love with their lives or just living (not saying that it's a bad thing) that they don't follow through with what they believe (or claim to believe) in. I was watching an anime movie Sword of the Stranger, and there's a high Buddist who was so afraid of dying and being killed that he actually gave up a little boy to his death even though it was against all the teachings. It got me thinking that some people actually do that (though in the movie it's an extreme case, I believe) they would actally throw away their life's teachings and beliefs away just to keep living. so...Linden has a very good point x3 But there is the quote, "A person who commits suicide only dies once, but the ones that loved them die a million times, reliving and rethinking about what went wrong." Perspective is a horribly wonderful thing But if I were to choose to go, I'd rather jump. Only if it were from a real high distance, because that sense of flying would feel just wonderful. Plus I heard that if you jump from a really high place you could pass it during the fall and you wouldn't even feel the impact, or you die on spot. A quick death. I have no idea why I would do it x3 Just to do it probably. There was also another quote I was reading (as I fear I do too much reading) that said "Once you consider the idea of suicide it never leaves your head, in the back of your mind the thought will always linger and the debate of commiting it or not will always be there. Sometimes I think that people commit suicide because they're sick of the debate whether they will or they won't." (I'm not sure that, that's the actual quote, but it was something along the lines, it was probably put better, but I can't remember it right now, sorry x3) I find the idea of suicide a very natural thing, a lot of people in my school have actually thought about suicide, but they never act on it because of fear. You don't find them talking about it in a normal conversation, (I have a felling something should be written here..other than this, but I fear I don't know what) but when you're lonely or your emotions are just on an all-time high the idea's always there Just like Neil from the movie x3 Emotions bubbling, and everything's just seems to happen at once........ I attempted and failed.... one of the stupidest phazes of my life. Period. And I would do my best to make it look like an accident, rather than coming out and leaving the impression that I wanted it to happen. As to why... I don't really have a reason anymore, do I? XD Sometimes I can understand why people do that. Understand, but not condone. Suicide is dumb. REALLY dumb. There was a point where I believed that I just can't go anymore. No will. No hope. The future was just more despair. Suicide is not selfish. It's hopelessness. As for the concept of it being mental illness.... it can be... it can not be.... My piano teacher had a son with a chemical imbalence. He stuck a gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger when he didn't take his medication. Luckily, the gun had a slight error in the barrel, so he ended up with a hole in his mouth instead of his brain. He couldn't help it. As for myself, I was really depressed. I doubt it was a chemical imbalence, but it was certainly life-threatening as long as I had the nerve to kill myself. But people recover. (Happily, I have no desire to off myself anymore.) So suicide is dumb, but, when you're in that position, you're living in such a hopeless world that you stop caring about reprecussions of your death. |

Tarisers (a small mammal) are known to commit suicide when in captivity due to stress. This alone is proof that suicide is not exclusive to humans, it is not a selfish act. |

I've only heard of lemmings committing mass suicide. In truth, they don't really commit mass suicide. They leave in huge numbers when the population is too big. Often times they end up on cliffs and get pushed off. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemming#Myths_and_misconceptions |
