I have a job as a karaoke DJ. Family business. My Mom and Dad also run it with me. We started to wind it down. We started on the day before at 8:00P.M. and it was about 2:45, I think. I was tired and hurt from dancing and singing songs I've sang thousands of times before. In the end of a song my mom heard a noise. It was a guy yelling for help. Near the place we were playing at(which was an Elks lodge) is a lake people swim and boat in all the time. This guy, his young son and his friend were out there in a boat when it capsized. It's freezing cold water in this lake. My first instinct was to jump in and try to swim out to save them but my dad caught me before I could. The lake dock in the elks lodge is at the bottom of this slant that the lodge is built on. the basement of the lodge has a door that leads outside through a little boathouse area with the handle on the inside and is locked on the outside. He told me to open that door. I ran from the bottom of the slant, into the lodge, through the lodge bar, down the 20 something stairs(skipping the last 8) ran through the underground lodge room, through the little boathouse room and slammed through the door. My dad and someone else grabbed a boat that was actually outside the little boat room and put it in the water. Me and the bartender Vivian and one of the lodge members kids Brennan looked for oars. all we could find were random sticks and shovels. I grabbed one of the snow shovels and gave it to my dad. I was so frantic I didn't see who gave the other shovel to our friend with E.M.T. experience Kathy. I also don't remember who helped my dad carry the boat, or how many of the lodge members, drunk or sober, jumped in the water to do what they can. I know my dad's friend Joel did, and Kathy's friend Tia. The boat was stuck on the edge of the lake and I pushed it as hard as I could, I went into the water up to the top of my thighs and kept pushing till my mother said to stop. I didn't want to be another body to save in the water. I know the Father that yelled was able to get out by himself, and tried to go back in to save his son and friend but someone stopped him before he could get himself hurt more. I couldn't imagine what it felt like in that water completely submersed. My legs felt like they were being stabbed with a dozen or so frozen knives. MY arms and back hurt and I didn't even get them wet. My whole body ached even more in anger that I couldn't help anymore then I could. As far as I can tell My dad was just in time with Joel and Tia and Kathy to save that little boy. They are heroes. My mom called every emergency team that could help to get there before anyone did anything. So did about five other people. All I could do after that is wait. It made me even angrier. I nearly broke a candle holder and the table it was sitting on. I wanted to yell but it would upset the more drunk of the bar-goers even more. All I could do was stay out of the way of the police paramedics and firemen. I think they were firemen. A lot of it was so slung together I didn't know what happened after that very much. All I remember was crying for minutes, maybe even hours. And the pain, my legs were soaking wet. Kathy told me to take off my shoes and socks and pants. She said it was because I would get hypothermia if I didn't. All we had to warm up with were old tablecloths and a heater system that was on the bottom of the walls of the lodge. I couldn't look outside. were I was sitting there was a truck in the way of the window looking out to the lake. I was frantic after I finally sat down, I panicked and cried. It was like my body was on autopilot until I sat down and actually thought about what just happened. I will never forget this. I don't know when. but they found the friend hours later. I heard he had a wife and two or three kids. The saddest part was that they weren't wearing life jackets and alcohol may have been involved. I couldn't stop thinking about how dumb they were, how it cost the life of a friend I've never even met. What I did find out was that the friend pushed the kid up enough for my friends to get him. He died saving a little kid. I would be at peace knowing that if that happened to me. I'm usually not very religious, but after the luck that that they had... if we hadn't kept karaoke going until two hours after we were supposed to close down there might have been three bodies to find. I feel someone was watching over them at that moment. Call it divine intervention, call it fate, call it random luck. I felt that that was too much of a coincidence. The only time we've overshot our time in about a year, and we save a father and his boy. I even started praying when my dad got out in the boat. I don't pray. it was weird for me. I did everything I could have. My dad and his friends efforts gave a father back his son. They will have another fathers day, another Christmas because of my dad and his friends. They're my heroes. That lost soul is too. I never got the names of them. I hope he's in a better place now. Jeez, I sound like a family movie. I'm going to stop writing now and possibly get some actual work done. You never know when stuff like that happens, I'll do my work now. And since I don't know what time you're reading this, Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.

I'm sort of been a bit held back about it, but then I realized that life is short. If I'm going to the pearly gates it'll be sideways going, "Wow, what a ride!" I am going to live dang it! LIVE!
