Hi Dirties, Apparently Ari submitted for her pre nom a reel where Nicole tells EJ why they can't get back together again. Since there were sooooo many scenes like that, anyone have a clue which one she picked? I think it's the naked sex on the floor in front of the couch scenes right after the black out. (Even Crystal tweeted compliments).They were good but I still think her May scenes blackmailing EJ were the best. James, if you don't know, submitted the scenes before the smex. When he falls in front of the fireplace and lights into Sami, calling her a bad mother. I like the second half of those scenes, when he's angry. Didn't love the scene where he falls. |

From what I just heard, KA didn't nominate herself in anything this year. And the show was saved from the axe due to Ari and the baby switch story, as there is nothing humanizing about crocodile tears. |

And what really irritates me is that a certain scrunchy faced actress submitted her reel for the LEAD actress category! Ari is their leading lady - she totally carried the baby switch and I actually tuned in to the scarfmance b/c of Ari. She made that mess more tolerable for me. |

Scarf loved... ugh... I also tuned into see how Nicole dealt with that betrayal. Ari made me see Nicole as a human being. She loved her husband. He betrayed her, and she seemed so broken. Her entire affair with Brady seemed less like love and more like a shell. I felt for Nicole in those months. I basically feel for Nicole because of Ari's performance in making her so human and relatable. I cannot relate to Ali Sweeney's portrayal as much. Somehow on the Sami journey I veered off. No disrespect, but to me Sami Brady is not the lead, and whoever puts Sami on everyday should get a major clue. Sami works well as villain, not the romantic lead. (I once gave her the Lucas exception, but that seems so long ago and well before Lucas turned into her chimp never allowed to exist outside a Sami story.) |

Its all politics. People are put up for lead because some have been "established" as a lead either in the past (where they had lead material) or because the actors has popularity (AS.) Also some people intentionally put themselves up as supporting to get a better chance at a nomination. It used to be that lead actress almost had reserved seats for Susan Flannery, Erika Slezak, Robin Strasser, so you really had 2 or 3 slots. |

The staples and entrenchment of certain people in the lead category and the strict adherence to this strategy to me is what's wrong with so many soaps... too much focus on a few and not enough overall vision. The soap model shouldn't die, but there needed to be a shakeup to keep the shows relevant to the audience... night time soaps are on fire. Daytime should be too. |

I want to co-sign this post. The screeching, sreaming over the top scenes are usually a fun payoff for the audience because it's when long held secrets explode and long awaited reveals unfold, but it's NOT a testament to the best acting. The subtle scenes are much more difficult for an actor and are a true test of someone's talent and Ari has never failed to show us every single emotion pour through her body in the most subtle ways. I loved EJ and Nicole's scenes after the blizzard sex as well as the divorce paper day so whichever she submitted is excellent subtle work and I hope the emmy voters can see that. |

I hope Ari & James get nominated at least, If they won (which i think they should have a long time ago) then i'd be over the moon!

Remember, it's up to the actor in which category they submit. I think in the past Ari has submitted herself for supporting because it is an easier category (and maybe fear of stepping on some toes) but undoubtedly, she's had a leading role during the baby switch. Maybe not so much in 2010, she was out for maternity leave and when she came back Nicole kind of floundered between being a threat to EJ and Sami's "relationship" (hardly a love affair, since Sami was never shown as anything more than at times lusting for EJ) and a threat to Brady and Arianna. But in 2011 she was definitely back to Lead Category with the months of beautifully acted angst with EJ, her mother's death, Taylor (barf!) the election and renewal of Ejole. I think James will be nominated. I'm not sure about Ari, not because she doesn't deserve it, she most definitely does but the competition is fierce. If the other actresses submitted heavy scenes with lots of DRAMA, Ari's more subtle portrayal might get lost in the pile. AS deserves to submit in Lead Category because whether we like Sami's stories or not, she's definitely the focus of the show. |
