frostthecat01:: Ironjaw padded to Pebblepaw ,his metal lips at a soft,relaxing smile."Are you ready to start your training?" He purred.

~~~
ReflectedMemories:: The young apprentice beamed up at his mentor, golden eyes shining brightly. "Of course!" He meowed. It would be his first day of training, and honestly the tom was glad it was Ironjaw who was chosen to be his mentor. He was a loyal and brave warrior, but he had a gentle side to him too. He was much like how Pebblepaw wanted to become, a perfect warrior for IceClan. Though curious about his jaw, which was his namesake, the young cat hadn't asked about it, not wanting to offend the other. He didn't find it weird or anything, well, at least not in a negative way. He thought it was unique that the warrior could live with the modification, especially coming from a twoleg. Pebblepaw would prick his ears forward, focused on his mentor. "What are we going to be training in today? Hunting? Fighting?" It was clear he was excited.
~~~

frostthecat01:: The blue tom purred and sat. "Well lets see..." and he thought for a moment, his eyes shining in thought. "How about we start with hunting." he purred.

~~~
ReflectedMemories:: Hunting! Either task would have been fine for Pebblepaw, and he trusted his mentor to come up with the perfect routine for his training. He was going to work hard, to do both his Clan and his mentor proud. The gray and white tom beamed. "Sounds great!" Both the task of hunting and fighting were important to Clan life, though hunting would definitely be needed in this harsh season of Leaf-bare. With the prey more scarce they needed as many cats hunting for the Clan as they could. The young tom was shifting slightly with excitement, practically bouncing from paw to paw.
~~~

frostthecat01:: The tom purred and got up, waving tail to his apprentice."Then what are we sitting here for? Lets go"

~~~
ReflectedMemories:: At his mentor's words the young apprentice almost shot forward in excitement. Hunting lessons were incredibly important, and he knew if he didn't pay close attention to his mentor then he would be no good at it. Still, it was a skill that he would need to develop over time. Pebblepaw would move after his mentor, white paws softly crunching the snow beneath his paws. "What are we going to try and hunt, Ironjaw?" He couldn't keep himself fully contained. It was his first outing with his mentor which was a huge deal. Today marked his official beginning as an apprentice to become a warrior. On the plus side, though he was excited, he tried to keep himself more on the hushed side, speaking in a whisper and trying to make his pawsteps not quite as heavy in the snow.
~~~

frostthecat01:: Ironjaw chuckled, happy to see his young apprentice's excitement. "Why don't we try birds? Now, the first thing you look for is the scent. if the scent is very sweet, it's young, if it's more bitter, it's older. Never hunt the hatchlings or birds that smell of young, for they will produce more for the next hunt." He purred, keeping his words strict, but gentle.

~~~
ReflectedMemories:: Pebblepaw would turn his attention to his mentor as he spoke again. Birds. He would imagine them to be a difficult sort of prey considering they were small creatures. Not as small as mice, but once they were at a certain height in the air they would be impossible to get to. Golden eyes would shine with understanding as the apprentice took in Ironjaw's words. The sweeter the scent of the bird, all the more reason to leave it alone. His words made sense. If all the young, strong prey was killed off there would be no more young produced, and thus their Clan would starve. So it made sense to hunt those that were older. "I understand, Ironjaw." The tom said calmly, glancing ahead for a moment to make sure he wasn't about to trip on anything.
~~~

frostthecat01:: The blue tom smiled and looked ahead, "Now,tell me. Can you scent anything?"

ReflectedMemories: The gray tabby would lift his nose to the air, slowing his steps just a bit as he breathed in. His fluffy ears would twitch and then finally the tom would speak, glancing back to Ironjaw. "I can smell some different scents... but mostly the crisp scent of snow." He would frown a bit. A lot of the scents of prey he knew were fainter. "I can smell some bird scents... but they're mostly older ones... and they range in age... some are really bitter and some are more sweet." He felt a little disheartened that his information wasn't better... but... it was his first day out training after all. He'd learn more as time went on.

~~~
frostthecat01:
The blue tom purred. "Very good. Now, to catch them, you must keep your body still,pressing your paws lightly onto the earth." And he demonstrated, creeping closer to a stick for practice. "Then,when you're barly a fox tail away...pounce!" And he pounced on the twig, snapping it. "You wanna try?"
~~~

ReflectedMemories:

Pebblepaw tilted his head to the side as Ironjaw spoke, golden orbs watching his mentor carefully as he listened to and observed his mentor demonstrating how to catch the winged beings that they caught as prey. 'Pressing my paws lightly on the earth...' He would think to himself, shifting his weight a bit. To keep his steps as quiet as possible, so as to not disturb the prey, he was going to have to practice his stepping. It would be something he'd be able to do even when he wasn't being instructed by Ironjaw. The young tom would twitch his ears happily as his mentor asked him if he wanted to try it as well. "Yeah!" He would start to move, though his steps weren't as quiet as his mentor's own. It was something that would come with time. As he neared another twig, staying about a fox tail length away, he would pounce, front paws landing a little above the twig. He would frown, lowering his ears in a disappointment. "I missed..."

~~~
frostthecat01:
He padded up to his apprentice and nuzzled his shoulders reassuringly. "It's alright, no one catches their first prey on the first try, not even the heavenly cats catch their prey first time either."
~~~

ReflectedMemories:

Pebblepaw would look up at Ironjaw as his mentor gave a gentle, reassuring nuzzle to his shoulder. The tom would nod, but still he felt a bit sad that he hadn’t been able to do it. “I suppose so...” He would look up to the sky, his tail twitching a bit as he thought of his mother. He wasn’t a Clan born cat... But he knew his mother had brought him out here hoping for a better life for him. She had been a loner... And from what others in the Clan had told him loners had hard lives. They didn’t have a Clan to help them hunt... Or a medicine cat to tend to them when they were sick. Thinking of her made the young tom sad. He would lower his ears a bit, looking to Ironjaw. “Do... Do you think my mom is with them, Ironjaw? I know she wasn’t a warrior but...” He didn’t want to think of her soul wandering somewhere alone.

~~~
frostthecat01:
The warrior purred softly. "dDon't worry, Pebblepaw, every soul if good or bad goes to starclan." Then he looked up. "The ruler of the sky finds all of us equal, so your mother, your ancestors, every prey you catch, will go to starclan. Where hey'll eat their food and live happy."
~~~

ReflectedMemories:

Ironjaw’s words certainly calmed him, as well as his soft purring. He wasn’t sure every soul would go to StarClan, especially if they were evil, but knowing his mother would definitely be there, as well as his ancestors and the prey they caught went somewhere so nice was definitely a good thing. The young tom gave a nod, a small smile spreading across his maw. “I’m really glad.” His golden gaze would shift back to Ironjaw. “How long did it take you to get good at hunting, Ironjaw?”

~~~
frostthecat01:
He chuckled softly. "A long time, since my jaw snapped off since I was real young, it took me ages to figue out how to catch them on my own."
~~~

ReflectedMemories:

A long time. The words were repeated in Pebblepaw’s mind, and the apprentice would give a small nod. Every cat had to learn... No one started out knowing how to fight, to hunt... No warrior cat started life out knowing the warrior code. Ironjaw must have had it harder though, he realized, because his mentor had to learn hunting on his own. With his iron jaw, his namesake, it had to be strange learning how to do that too. The gray and white tom would look towards the sky again, golden gaze softening. He’d learn. He had to learn.

Finally he would look back to his mentor, a small smile spreading across his maw again. “...I’m not going to give up.” Sure it was just his first try, and he was only practicing... But... He knew it was important to keep his heart and head focused on his tasks at hand. He wanted to let Ironjaw know he wasn’t just going to quit... Even if he made mistakes. Even if it took a long time for him to learn. Determination shown in his gaze, a look that made him look very much like the father he had never met. That none of the Clan had met.

So Pebblepaw would stand tall again, flicking his tail slowly back and forth. “We can keep practicing, right?” It was still early in the day and their session, so he was sure he’d be able to at least make some sort of improvement by the time it was done.

The Russian blue tom nodded. "Yes, we will. But remember, a warrior who trains too hard is a warrior who wont fight. Remember, don't train yourself to the point of exhaustion. If you do that, then what's the point in fighting if you used too much in training?" He gazed up to the sky. He remembered Oaky and Alfalpha, his mom and dad, and how he trained till exhaustion when his medicine twoleg wasn't around. He turned back to pebblepaw. "Now, what's the difference between hunting mice and rabbits?"

Reflected Memories::

A warrior who trains too hard... Won’t fight? Pebblepaw would frown as his mentor said this, ears lowering some. But... Training was good though, right? He didn’t necessarily need to push himself to exhaustion. Still... Ironjaw’s words gave the young apprentice pause. He would think that even if an apprentice trained hard they would still be fierce fighters as warriors. They would work hard, always putting the Clan first. But... Perhaps there was such a thing as training too hard. The golden eyes of the young tom became downcast.

“Well...” He wasn’t sure what to say on the matter really. Luckily it was not something that Ironjaw was going to dwell on... So he would change the subject, asking instead about different hunting techniques. The little tom would look up, thinking. “Hmm... Well mice are smaller... And they don’t really rely on seeing a predator but rather sensing and feeling them. So you have to be both quick and light on your paws so you don’t alert them... But for rabbit’s you need to be really quiet because they have such good hearing and uh...” Was there a special way to try and bring down a rabbit? Pebblepaw would look to Ironjaw. “I... I’m not sure what else.”

~~~
frostthecat01:
Ironjaw's gaze softened and purred. "A mouse will feel your footsteps, a rabbit will smell your pelt on the wind, and a bird will hear your tail swishing the leaves."
~~~

Reflected Memories:

Pebblepaw would listen, furrowing his brow as he tried to memorize the information. Mice could feel you... Rabbits would smell you... And a bird would hear you... At least for their first line of defense in being hunted. The gray and white tom would nod after a few moments, once he was sure the information that he repeated a few times in his brain would stick. Then his golden orbs would turn back to Ironjaw, his frown returning. “...How is that effected when there is a lot of snow on the ground, Ironjaw?” Snow could make the steps of a cat louder... Make their actions clumsy. Was there advice his mentor could give for that?

~~~
frostthecat01:
He paused and thought for a moment,then looked at his apprentice with a soft smile. "Actualy, snow can be used to our advantage, as well as our heavely father's rain. The mud and snow leave prints to show us the prey. When it's muddy or snowy, tap you paw three times infront of you, gently and quietly. when you feel nothing but solid ground, gently press your foot down."
~~~

ReflectedMemories:

The apprentice would listen, but frown as well. Sure the snow and mud caused by rain could leave prints of prey but... “But what about the noise made by walking through snow? The prey would be able to hear us... Wouldn’t they?” Rain could cover that sound depending on how hard it was raining... But... He wasn’t sure what to do about making noise in the snow. He tended to walk heavily in the stuff.

~~~
frostthecat01:
"That's when you press lightly to the snow, to make sure the snow doesn't make a sound."
~~~

Refelcted Memories:

The apprentice would nod, but frown at the same time. He knew it was going to take practice... A lot of practice. “Okay...” He would meow softly. He would give a small flick of his tail, trying to reflect on what he learned within his head once more. It would take time surely to get it all... But he was just starting out as an apprentice. He would get better through time.

Golden eyes would look back to his mentor, a small smile on his face. “Thank you for teaching me all of this, Ironjaw.” Sure it was his duty as a mentor... But Pebblepaw appreciated his patience with him all the same.

~~~
frostthecat01:
He nodded and put his tail on Pebblepaw's back. "C'mon,let's head home~"
