Based on the order in which our 24 managers showed up and called for each one's genre in the previous thread, here is the distribution by groups. yeah i agree it will be tough...since only people who actually like anime will watch it. i like anime and will probably watch it myself. can't really imagine any women enjoying those rape films tho. jus sayin. luckily there are only a few of us here if i'm feeling brave i might try it...just so i'm not criticizing something i haven't actually watched. i'll shut up for now this is gonna be interesting...

I never understood how people could not like animation, let alone cinphiles. Mysteries of cinema... Yeah, the rape one. Well, it's more of a slasher than a rape film (if you want to look at it from that perspective) and most female characters have far worse things happening to them in this particular film than rape. So... But I didn't choose it because of the rape aspect, which just happens to be part of the film (though a very important one), but because it is a great film that fits my theme and is a wonderful opening for my genre, as well as an enrichment for the cup, I think. Yeah, many people (I'd also guess more women than men) don't like to watch graphic stuff in general, but I personally know several female cinephiles who have no problem at all with such things, some even being fans of pink/horror/slasher/porn films, and also non-cinephile women, who enjoy Japanese films that feature rape fantasies and such. It really is a difficult film to stomach regarding certain things that are going on. But it also has tons of wonderful and magnificent moments (imo). A bit like a fusion of styles by Dario Argento and David Lynch, with a bit of Carmelo Bene thrown into the mix. EDIT: But we can all talk about that in the film's thread, when I create one, and when (or if) we've all watched the film. Don't want to reveal too much about it (I probably already have ).

As an addendum: I know a woman who won't watch films featuring violence as a rule, even turning them off or walking out of a cinema if there's violence in a film. And with violence I really mean violence. Nothing extreme at all (just in case you're merely thinking about action films, or people shooting each other, or crime films or such harsh stuff). Well, I guess if there are people who get upset if they see some naked skin in a film, there are also many who get equally upset if someone gets slapped. Edited by wba, Feb 14 2015, 10:32 PM.

javier please don't worry, it's fine. i wasn't too concerned about the order i love crime films, gangster films, samurai and kung fu!! and westerns of course lol not many of my girlfriends do though. i don't mind violence but giallo and slashers where let's face it the victims are nearly always women are just not very enjoyable for me. but everyone is different and i know many girls like exploitation and gore as much as guys do. ideally i should be able to watch anything i suppose but there's just too much other stuff i actually like. ok enough discussion, i await the film threads!! and may the best genre win!!

@rischka Yeah, why should one watch stuff one is generally not interested in? I honestly think it's a waste of time. Either interests develop or they don't. That's why I usually think it's pretty pointless to watch somethink just to have seen it, or cause someone says you should, or because people are talking about it or whatever. I was never a gorehound or anything such, and I never watched films because of such reasons. Also just developed an interest in exploitation cinema and more fringe and extreme stuff when I was older and after many years of being a cinephile. And I know many film fans who don't watch so-called exploitation stuff in general, cause they can't evaluate it (same as people who don't watch stuff that's often termed "trash" or "underground" cause it all seems like bad filmmaking to them, be it of the Andy Warhol school or the one of Herschell Gordon Lewis). But I honestly can't wrap my head around actual film fans who find it difficult to watch animated films. I know some who are like that, and it's a complete mystery to me. I mean animation was always an integral part of cinema (film itself kinda started out as animated photography), and nowadays with CGI and stuff, it seems that 50% of Hollywood films are animation (and that figure is going to grow). To me this feels very similar to people telling me they don't like paintings. You know, Picasso and da Vinci are so boring. Just colors put on a canvas. Or maybe some fans of painting who tell me they don't like oil paintings. "Well, I just don't watch oil paintings, they're much too detailed, hurt my eyes, photography does it better anyway." EDIT: yeah, I guess we've hijacked this thread with too much off-topic stuff.

Should we start the threads on individual films just anywhere in the Genre Cup section, or should everyone post their films in their group section (which is yet to be created) or in his genre section (that would also have to be created)? I know these might sound somewhat like unnecessary questions, but I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of overreaching structure, and also to have these specific film discussions concentrated under one roof so to speak, where everyone can easily find them, and not scattered all over the place. How bout creating some folders and sub-folders in the 2015 SCFZ Cup board section and a corresponding structure for the various competition stages as well as the individual genres and such with the help of the mods? Maybe something similar to what we have in the Continents section (http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Auteurs/forum/4049293/) or the directors (http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Auteurs/forum/4047476/) and lists (http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Auteurs/forum/4048009/) sections. I'm very much interested what do people in sites like this think about "I Was a Teenage Werewolf". That's one of my favourites, and I find it so cool with all of its cute shortcomings, such as silly regression experiments. Yet I feel it wouldn't do well in SCFZ cup this year, so I picked a bit refined films. Guilty pleasure No.1 if you ask me. Maybe I even change my mind if responses are positive

How about a Folder only for the films? Or a Folder for each genre? We could then link to them in the matches (simply link the title of the film to the desired film or genre folder). Edited by wba, Feb 14 2015, 11:23 PM.

Sight unseen I'd vote for any movie that isn't entirely worthless over rape cartoons. But! in the spirit of contest I promise I'll at least sit through the first ten minutes of the rape cartoon before voting against it. That's the Karl guarantee. Oh, and I'm running against... an Emilio Estevez movie? Well, all right then. |

We can create sub-folders following this path, for example: Film/2015 SCFZ Cup/Introduction Threads for Group Stage/First Matches in Group Stage/Zoom In: Sex Apartments (Naosuke Kurosawa, Japan 1980) And that folder called "Zoom In: Sex Apartments (Naosuke Kurosawa, Japan 1980)" will be a Redirection Folder. It means that it can also be accessed from the folders located in "Directors'", "Continents", "Countries", etc. I'll go to the Admin CP to experiment a bit... I'm assuming you're being sarcastic. Otherwise this qualifies as the most stupid thing written so far on SCFZ (and yes, that includes the politics thread...). Edited by wba, Feb 15 2015, 12:01 AM.

Ok, the folders have been created. The path through our site is: Film/ 2015 SCFZ Cup/ Group Stage/ Group Stage Round 1/ *Here you create your thread for the current round (Example: "Zoom In: Sex Apartments (Naosuke Kurosawa, Japan 1980) - An Introduction") *The threads for each match during the round will also be here. Once the intro threads are created, I'll copy their url's so they can be accessed through other folders and paths from our site, like "Directors'" or "Countries". Why not just call them discussion threads and have one discussion thread per match? Some managers might not want to post an "introduction" anyway. Having said that, speaking for myself my threads will most likely contain fuckloads of frames and wall-of-text ramblings about the film I'm running, so there may potentially be the issue of like a "lopsided" thread meant to be shared between two films if one manager goes berserk and the other doesn't which could be annoying (also depending on who contributes what to the discussion). So maybe there should be two threads per match, one for each film, and then like a separate voting thread. But then of course there'd be quite a lot of threads though I guess we could divide them into subfolders and so forth. Edited by Mischa, Feb 15 2015, 12:10 AM.

In that case, each manager or user in general will be free to create a folder and name it as an introduction thread (with lots of screen caps and sequence analysis for example) for just one of the films or for the whole match involving the two films. As you said, maybe some managers won't create any thread at all or maybe they'll open many for the same match. For me there is no problem even if the discussion takes place spontaneously in the same voting thread. That has happened before and has derived to new interesting threads. However, if we see insults and personal offenses not related to film discussion, I propose those posts should be immediately reported and moved to the "Arguing Forum" thread to be discussed there. Other opinions about the Introduction / Discussion threads?? |

Well, we can simply name the films' threads after the films' titles. If they will feature introductions, or discussions or links or whatever, they'll all still clearly be about the film. And also people can still post about the film or discuss it way after the World Cup has ended. And I'm all for using the voting threads as discussion threads! Edit: And of course any insults and such should be handled the same as always and moved into the arguing thread or deleted or whatever. Edited by wba, Feb 15 2015, 12:30 AM.

this is gonna be interesting...
).
i like some horror and a few slashers but mostly not a gore hound i guess
anyway good luck to everyone
this should be interesting
) also i'm not sure if it was used in a cup; i know jancso was in a cup but that was before my time....i've only seen 5 of these so good work people
lol not many of my girlfriends do though. i don't mind violence but giallo and slashers where let's face it the victims are nearly always women are just not very enjoyable for me. but everyone is different and i know many girls like exploitation and gore as much as guys do. ideally i should be able to watch anything i suppose but there's just too much other stuff i actually like. ok enough discussion, i await the film threads!! and may the best genre win!!

and i'm sure the japanese have rape cartoons too. i know they have a rape video game
