Based on the order in which our 24 managers showed up and called for each one's genre in the previous thread, here is the distribution by groups. I simply took the first six as the heads of the groups and then I just assigned a manager to each group following the order and the multiples of 6. GROUP A 1A. DT - "WE ARE FAMILY" 2A. Brian Davisson - "I WANNA MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER" 3A. Mauries - "THE KILLING SEA" 4A. Mario Gaborovic - "COMING-OF-AGE: BRINGING BACK MEMORIES" 3B. The New Janitor - "TERMINAL ILLNESS AND DEATHLY DECLINE!" 4B. Tuggingonmustaches - "MATRIBHUMI'S MALAISE" GROUP C 1C. Rokas - "STRUGGLE IN THE VILLAGE" 2C. Jirinvk - "BEARDED LADIES, FEMININE MOUSTACHE, HIRSUTISM" 3C. WBA - "ME IS ANOTHER: LOVE STREAMS" 4C. Gylfi - "OH! WHAT A LOVELY WAR!" GROUP D 1D. Whoa, the vimeo quality of the Honneamise link on the blog is atrocious. If anyone wants to watch that film, I'd suggest free streaming via here (quality still isn't perfect, but much much better): http://www.animeultima.io/wings-of-royal-space-troop-honneamise-episode-1-english-subbed/ EDIT: Maybe the blog link can be replaced with this one Javier? I think the organizers and all involved are doing a fine job and everything, but tbh, just tbh, the streaming thing has always been something that has discouraged me from watching more cup-films. I have an erratic internet connection, and I often encounter hiccups even when streaming in SD. maybe I'm spoiled, but I also can't help finding stuff like dropped frames and poor compression really aggravating and distracting. don't mean to gripe; just, you know, putting my perspective out there, in case it's relevant. |

Royal Space Force I think is on Hulu as well! It's a very good movie for what it's worth, one of the better films of the cup (would have to rewatch the jancso before voting though). Edit: the streaming thing has always been the number one reason I've never participated in a cup. Edited by nrh, Feb 19 2015, 02:22 AM.

@James and nrh I could have sympathized with your problem if you were staying in a third world country. I think you guys should get a better internet connection. Having said that, dropbox is not an option because I do not want to permanently distribute films to random people. Streaming on a blog leaves the option open for people to watch for a specific period of time after which I can simply take down the link. Also most of you have KG accounts which is our main source for these films so you are free to download them on your own. |

Hmm, strange. The KG specs look decent to me (though there are also the 720p and 1080p versions available on KG which are even better than the link I found), at least judging by the small pics. Maybe an HD upload on Vimeo could've helped? EDIT: Just compared the KG screencaps with screencaps from the vimeo upload and there's a significant difference/drop in quality. Maybe something went wrong during the upload. Edited by wba, Feb 19 2015, 03:04 AM.

I never asked for sympathy. I only offered my perspective in case it was relevant, and I offered it as politely as I know how. I understand that there are good reasons for doing things the way they are being done. I'm not oblivious. fyi though, drop box sites (of which there are several) can easily be set up in such a way that would not create a permanent link, and they can be just as private as streaming, as long as the "random people" participating in this cup behave responsibly. and by "behave responsibly," I only mean that they don't go around posting links to the dl all over the internet. not really that much restraint required. I've got the internet option that works best for me and my current situation right now, so I won't be switching to a [much] more expensive plan/provider just so I can stream video better. I don't like wasting money. and sorry, but I don't think it's reasonable to ask us to burn through hard-earned KG ratio either. Edited by James•, Feb 19 2015, 03:31 AM.

i'm getting the sense that i'm a weird person around here. i kind of enjoy watching films of middling visual quality (when the content is good). there's something about the vhs-y feel of the copy of report to mother that's out there, or the missing reel at the end of the blood stain, or general crappiness of some older prints that gives them an immediacy that 720p can't match. it's like walter benjamin turned on his head or something. (wba's pixellation problems are completely understandable, though.) from the sound of things, most of you guys are going to hate my second round film just because of the image quality (the only copy available to my knowledge).

well, I didn't mean to suggest that you were being unreasonable, obviously, but thanks for taking the drop box option under advisement. I really think it will be fine. if you used 1fichier, for instance, just compress the files into a zip or rar, give it a nondescript filename and make the dl password protected. even if some undesirable happened upon the link by some outrageous miracle, they would have no way of knowing the contents of the zip/rar or the password. files that aren't dl-ed for 30 days get automatically deleted from the db. should be pretty bullet-proof, as far as I can see. .. I've watched my fair share of grubby vhs-quality cinema. It's not a deal-breaker, but if given my druthers, I'd rather see a film in the best presentation possible, since quite possibly it may be the one and only time I watch it… Edit: and for the record, my main gripe about streaming, from a "quality" perspective, is the dropped frame issue, which I find quite distracting. Nah, same here. I generally have no problem with low quality myself as I own and watch many VHS and I'd also agree with your statement that the "general crappiness of some older prints gives them an immediacy that 720p can't match." And it's terrible how bad some HD masters still are today and then for me a crappy Blu-ray is on the same level as a bad(ly compressed) avi. Also love the look of VHS, btw. though if I have the option I'd rather watch a film shot on film from a great HD master than a great VHS, just for the sake of getting closer to a possible appreciation of the work on display ;-) Edited by wba, Feb 19 2015, 04:24 AM.

To please the majority is the requirement of the Planet Cinema. As far as I'm concerned, I don't make a concession to viewers, these victims of life, who think that a film is made only for their enjoyment, and who know nothing about their own existence. letterboxd * tumblr * website | |
