I am in after a recent re-watch. There was a strange sense of deja-vu around this point and it made the film all the more appealing. It's interesting how Ford frames the shot looking outwards whereas Ozu frames it inwards.

love it. wish I could be in NYC for that MOMI screening, since I probably owe this film a re-watch anyway, but nevertheless, top 10 Ford for sure.

If Nathan does indeed see this in 35mm tonight, he becomes president-for-life of the Club.

It's a club you can join if you've seen and like The Long Gray Line. Actually, I'm not sure if you have to like it to join.

saw it this afternoon actually, just been trying to get my thoughts together.

was a very beautiful print - maybe a little faded but looking at screenshots here that seems to be a quality of the images. not a huge crowd (think it was because it was screened so early in the day) but really diverse and very appreciative.

not sure what to say yet but - westpoint as filmed by ford is one of the all time great movie locations, a closed off and seemingly infinite world, not unlike the monastery in raining in the mountain. i've never quite seen someone use cinemascope this way.

the film is unquestionably great, very strange, and (i thought) moving beyond description. not sure i've ever seen a film that so wholly carried the weight of a man's life (among many other strange and fascinating things).

Easily one of my favorite Fords, and one of the most moving films I've ever seen. I don't believe I joined the club back in the Mubi days, but I would like to join now!
