We move west once again! From the Maritimes, to Quebec, and onto Ontario! How appropriate that this a road movie. This is my favorite genre and my favorite country. Enjoy.

goin down the road

watched this a year ago, it was okay, nothing high class, somewhat canadian, etc

the sentimental bloke

this was not NEARLY as good as the sentimental swordsman. man that movie was great!!

umm for the first 30 minutes or so of this, the poor picture quality, the sudden transitions between bright white and black-bordered text, the absurd aussie slang, and the trite music just gave me a big headache. hurt to watch. after that it was okay if nothing amazing for the next 25 minutes, and then it went on for another 8 minutes for no apparent reason like a big anticlimax. overall i will give this a yeah, nah

xCanada by default, like a cold double double over nescafe

Not even really participating in this game but I already watched these 2.

I never thought I would be in the minority for loving Goin' Down the Road.

I'd never seen this movie before but I was somehow nostalgic for it nonetheless, maybe its Canadianness just seeped into my bones. The plot of The Sentimental Bloke was too standard for me to get much out of it, though I did enjoy deciphering the intertitles.

Joey and Pete looked about 20 years too old for the gig ...(and do they not have wimmin & breasts in Nova Scotia? :sly: )

love the sentimental bloke, turned the music way down after ten, and had a lot of fun seeing it again. A hundred years old but some things endure, I've got a hat just like Doreen's

Revising my vote to xAustralia as it's been five days and I barely remember any of the Shebib.... and the Australian one has stuck. Although they are both a relative quality.

xaustralia, though the rhyming titles were a bit annoying
I will talk breathlessly about Spanish and Portuguese cinema, João César Monteiro, Ritwik Ghatak, and Jacques Rivette, and hardly ever about anything else.

I like both of these, and I can make a case for either one being my vote. But after a few days to mull it over, I decided only one of them has Arthur Tauchert, who I found to be exceptional in his ham-fisted way.

Loved both films. "The Sentimental Bloke" has the most beautiful intertitles' designs and compositions that I had ever seen. "Goin' Down the Road" has similar situations with work and friends but it becomes some kind of nightmarish version of the first one. Both can be part of a bigger reflection on what the terms "conflict", "happiness", "survival" can mean and vary throughout the years.

Oh, xCanada , I guess. Australia had some real merits, but there was a self-righteous Goody Two-Shoes tone to it that I found annoying.
