Germany: World on a Wire (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1973) [sci-fi]

Iran: Minus (Kazem Mollaie, 2009) [sci-fi]

Vote for either xGermany or xIran (italicization unnecessary).

i seem to be the only person here who doesn't think artsy fartsy fass-b was a huge genius, and fortunately i'd already seen WOAW cause it's not like i would've watched a movie that long for this (...), but i didn't really get minus. it was about freedom or something? i dunno. WOAW is pretty decent. i think it has a lot of mirrors and some pretty snooty looking german guys sneering at proles or something, haven't seen it in a while

This was the first time I saw WOAW. In general I enjoyed the mise-en-scène in some scenes despite the excessive amount of dialogues mostly in the first part. In regards to the plot, the simulated world hypothesis has been really interesting throughout the years, so this might be candy for fans of conspiracy theories or Mandela effect enthusiasts and so on. As I say sometimes, I'll keep some sequence shots as good memories from this film.

I felt Minus wasn't going anywhere or opening any road. I mean, some films seem to not to be going anywhere but the path or described process turns out to reveal something. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with its length or genre anyways. I appreciate the effort of not using dialogues at all and the icons representation but I think something essential or somehow meaningful was missing from the whole picture.

Welt am Draht has long been one of my favorites, so the bar was too high for a short film. In fact the only short film I like better than World on a Wire is Meshes of the Afternoon.

I liked the Iranian flick... very cool to see an Iranian sci-fi... but WoaW is just beauty in its purest form
