SCFZ Movie Club, the rotating-projectionist game. Enrolled members take turns "screening" a movie, then we sip jug wine, eat stale crackers and pontificate to each other for awhile before the next one starts.

THE PLAYERS:
The starting lineup looks like this:

Blue Soldier (Round 2, 3: no-show)
Bure
Erika Jayne (Round 2: no-show, round 3: resigned) :frypan:
Flabrezu (Round 2, 3: no-show)
Holymanm
Javier Quintero
Josiah Morgan (Round 2: no-show, round 3: resigned)
Kanafani
Lencho
Mario Gaborovic
Mauries
Sacmersault
WBA

Anyone who wants to join can do so at any time. Announce your availability and your name will be added to the list above. Ditto for resignations. All SCFZ members are welcome to watch movies and take part in the discussions, of course; that's not restricted to the players listed above.

"No-shows" are welcome to catch up on their missed contributions whenever possible; they should work out the details with Lencho if they want to slide back into the game.

THE SCHEDULE:

Bure will make the first movie available on or before 1/1/2018. People will watch it and discuss it in this thread for as long as it holds their interest.

Erika Jayne will make the second movie available around the time that people begin discussing the first movie. I'm estimating that'll be 1/3 - 1/4 or thereabouts.

Each subsequent curator will be expected to make their offering available around the time the discussion begins for the movie before theirs. As we get a clearer sense of the rhythm this process follows, we'll be able to fine-tune the guidelines for scheduling as needed.

File-sharing links or links to online streaming resources (no pay-per-view) will be posted for each participants' movies on the Resources page.

THE RULES SOFT GUIDELINES

It's probably better to keep things clean, elegant and linear, and discuss only one movie at a time, holding off on the newest movie in queue until it looks like interest has died down for the one already under discussion. Allowing 24 hours of down-time after one discussion seems to fixxle out before beginning the next one seems like an easy way to ensure that.

If it doesn't actually happen that way, it ain't no big thing.

In terms of film-choices and the content of what each person provides, common sense will dictate a few factors that will make some movies less attractive to a large number of players.

1) Attractive high-res copies are preferable to murky shit that's being projected from the bottom of a fish tank.
2) Most people will not be willing to watch a movie in a language they don't understand. English (original soundtrack or subtitles) is the one language that everyone here is comfortable with.
3) The focus of the game is discovering movies that are new to us, so some effort should be made to select movies that only a tiny handful of players have already seen.

FILMS PROGRAMMED:

Round one
Spoiler: click to toggle

Round two
Spoiler: click to toggle

Round three
Cinderella Jones - Berkeley, 1946
A Yank At Oxford - Jack Conway, 1938
Bianca - Nanno Moretti, 1984

BURE - Are you going with Peace or did you maybe change your mind? Post your film to resources any time between now and 1/1.

ERIKA JAYNE -- Get ready to post your first pick, probably sometime around 1/3 or 1/4.

JOSIAH MORGAN -- are you in or out? I just saw for the first time your post where you said "well, yeah, I could maybe do it. Sometimes. Or not. But I don't know if I'd always want to."

Super Champion Film Zone → Film → General Film Discussion → Resources

The first time you open the page, you'll be asked to sign in with password. If I remember correctly, the password is the same eight-letter word that we used on the tumblr blog. If you need more info than that someone else will have to provide it, 'cuz I do all my navigating on autopilot.

I already have a film I could provide (to you lencho?), in case I'm away for the net during the time I should provide it, or sick or on a trip or whatever.

Should I put it in resourses, or send the link to you and you will make it available later?
To please the majority is the requirement of the Planet Cinema. As far as I'm concerned, I don't make a concession to viewers, these victims of life, who think that a film is made only for their enjoyment, and who know nothing about their own existence.

You're talking about a film that's probably going to come into play about three months from now. If you're really concerned about getting sidetracked, PM that link to me and I'll be able to release it as needed. If you put it in Resources, it'll get lost.

Howdy, BlueSoldier. Sure, I'll add your name to the list of curators, seems like a good way for all to get acquainted -- but do you mind waiting till the second alphabetical sequence for your turn to step up to the plate? I feel like the starting lineup is already locked in.

I'll probably be a casual participant in this - I know from Cups that I'll never watch everything - but I wouldn't want to be on the list of curators until at earliest the second round, when I know how often I'll be watching others' films.

Bure's first movie, Peace, By Kazuhiro Soda, is up. You know where to find it.

ErikaJayne will have a movie available in a couple of days for us to engage with when Peace has run its course. Right? Right?

I'm currently at a film festival, and after that I'll be spending a bit (more) time with my girlfriend, and after that I'll be working 24/7 for a couple of weeks, so I won't be able to participate for a while.
But I'll try to be back asap (probably mid-february), and am looking forward to all of the films! :-)

start discussing?
It looked like discussion of Peace had run its course, but Erika said he was on the brink of watching it, so I guess we should hang on that much longer -- Holyman also is planning to watch it soon.

I don't know if anyone but you and mesnalty has watched Nobody's Children yet.

Of course, Mauries. I'll add your name to the list right away; your turn will come up... just after mine, I guess.

EDIT: No, after Mario, actually...
