Oscar Goldman, head of the OSI was never one to give too much into feelings. He was seen from the outside as a strong man, calculating and in charge. A top spy and a tough enemy. Not many were allowed to see the more vulnerable side of the Boss. But the few who did see, knew that he was a true friend who moved heaven and earth if need be. Steve Austin was one of those few. Saved after a plane crash with the new technology of bionics, he became the top agent of the OSI and a very close friend to Oscar. Their friendship was unique. No one thought that Oscar would have time for or even the interest in relationships with women. He was married to the OSI, at least that was his secretary Peggy Callahan one called him. But it wasn’t true. There was one woman who stole his heart. Jaime Sommers. 1. It all began with the case of the copied 20 $ bill plate and Joseph Rona. After that Steve went home to Ojai to his mother and stepfather. He bought the old Marsden Ranch and fixed it up. At the same time his old high school sweetheart Jaime Sommers was in town and they got together again and even got engaged. Oscar never thought Steve could be that serious but it was. The tragic accident happened that day Oscar called him and told him about the importance of the Rona-case but Steve didn’t wanna come back. When Steve came to him to beg for Jaimes life, Oscar told him, that Steve would sell his soul because he loved the girl. He knew Steve long enough to feel for him, but he couldn’t just give in. There were millions of dollars at stake and he had to tell Steve what it all involved. And also the consequences of the operation. Of course Steve was willing to do all that. “Jaime put her life in my hands and I put it in yours.” He said begging. So Oscar complied. There was an operation and the second Bionic Human was born. Oscar was there, when Jaime literally took her first steps with her new bionic feet and of course he got to like her. She was beautiful, had a great sense of humor, intelligent and an all about charming aura about her. Everybody liked her. And she made Steve happy, that much was certain. After some time the reality of life stirred its ugly head and there were rumors about Joseph Rona again and the plates. In addition to that, Steves mother found out about the bionics of Steve and Jaime. Steve and Oscar argued about Jaimes involvement and as sure as Oscar had predicted it, Steve refused it flat out! But Jaime heard it and told him, she had an obligation to the government and the people who saved her life, so she would take the assignment. The day after that her training startet. Not long after that Jaimes hand acted up and started quivering. Even Rudy was at his wits end and didn’t know what was the matter. The first assignment went well, as well as it could, but the problems with Jaimes bionics got worse. They discovered a clot in Jaimes brain and then she ran away. Steve brought her in and she died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage in the brain on the operation table. Oscar stood beside Steve when they lost the young woman. It was heartbreaking for Oscar to see Steve saying goodbye to his beloved Jaime. 2. What happened then was so fast, it did made Oscars head spin. Michael Marchetti saved Jaimes life with the help of Rudy Wells. Cryogenics. Oscar wanted to tell Steve, but there were so many variables what could go wrong that he didn’t. And so they kept it a secret from him. During Steves next mission he was severely injured and his both legs were crushed, the mission was a success but Steve would be recuperation for some time, to get his legs in working shape again. It was there that he saw Jaime and he told Oscar and Rudy, though they told him that he was hallucinating because he was delirious for three days due to his injuries. But finally they had to tell him and he was furious. Steve threatened to throw them out the window if they didn’t come clean, so Oscar gave in. Rudy told Steve all about the process and of all the dangers of what could have gone wrong and what still could go wrong. Finally they agreed to let him see Jaime just to say hello. She didn’t recognize Steve due to some brain damage. They had long discussions about how to and if to stimulate Jaimes memories or if it was just too dangerous to her in causing too much pain again. Steve, when asked how he was, just said, he was alright, but was he really? It must have been hell for him. Finding Jamie, almost marrying her, losing her and finding her again only to be confronted with her amnesia. Oscar was worried about his pal and just wanted to save him from the pain and suffering but didn’t know how exactly he could do that. They got to the point when they had to explain Bionics to Jaime and who better than Steve? So the two of them trained together. And then there was the attachment of Jaime to Michael Marchetti. Maybe it was just an infatuation from patient to doctor, but Oscar had to give Steve a lot of credit for his behaving. So much emotional stress in such a short time. Then there was the trip to Ojai. Oscar did think it could bring her memories back, if only they stayed away from the town. He hoped against hope that it would be good for them and that it helped to stop the pain for Steve, his pal. But it didn’t help. There were flashes of memory and they brought pain with it. So the next step was an assignment. Jaime and Steve were to sabotage an oli refinery of one Carlton Harris. Oscar saw that Jaime had a little episode in the plane just before the jump and then Steve and Jaime almost got shot while escaping, because Jaime had another flash of memory and pain and tried to save Steve. In the End Steve made the ultimate sacrifice and said that he was the source of Jaimes pain so she should be taken to Colorado Springs, Rudys other facility. Away from him and the pain. “For as long as it takes.” With a heavy heart Oscar made the arrangements. 3. In retrospect Oscar was glad that he never would have to go through this kind of torture. He admired his pal for it and felt for him, just like Rudy did. But then soon everything changed, because Jaime started to work for him and the friendly, fatherly feelings changed into something else. Something more. And he had to get accustomed to sending two people he cared for on dangerous missions with the possibility of losing both. 4. Finally Oscar had to get word to the Secretary about Jaimes story and her condition. There would be one last operation to restore her memory, again with the possibility that everything could go wrong. Already he was more emotionally involved as he would have admitted. And how could he not? After all that he witnessed with Steve. Of course no one could stay cold and unattached during such tragic moments. Jamie was a remarkable young woman. The operation was successful and restored another part of her brain and broke the pain barrier, as Rudy put it, so she could remember without trouble. But the part of the skydiving accident and her feelings for Steve were gone. When he was asking her what she would like to do, Jaime said she would like to put down some roots and get back to Ojai. Playing tennis was out of the question due to her bionics, but she had a degree as a school teacher, so she planned to do just that. The Ventura Air Force Base was the only place that had a post available. Sure, she wanted to help out and be the asset to the OSI that she was. After all there was a really big investment into her bionic parts and she felt obliged to do her part. Oscar wouldn’t have it. After all she had been through, he just couldn’t send her to missions. Not when he looked into those beautiful eyes, that were so trusting and alive! It actually pained him, to let her go, after all the time in Rudys Complex, where he could have an eye on her. But he knew that she needed time to get settled in Ojai and hoped, he didn’t have to send her on missions, which was absolutely ridiculous, because she was part government property and the government had ways to mess one life up. Oscar just hoped it would take some time, before he had to send her off. |

5. But of course time flies when you’re having fun, so the first call to send Jaime on a mission was all too soon. It was true what he said to her on her first mission: “When i think of you on paper, I think of you as an agent, but when I see you, I wonder if it isn’t too risky.” That was when she had to rescue the ambassador in Costa Brava. She naturally accused him of backing out and tried to convince him, that she could do it. Of course she was right, but it didn’t diminish his worrying. Then came the next assignment and the next mission and every time Oscars heart grew heavier. Sure, they had a lot of laughs together and she saved a lot of people, was wrongly accused of stealing some top secret encoder and so on and so forth. And then there was the case with Lisa Galloway. He shuddered just thinking about it. She had them all fooled, that southern girl. Luckily he barely escaped her assassination attempt while he was talking to the real Jaime Sommers. Oscar had to interrogate Lisa, who wore the face of his Jaime. Sometimes he just wanted to slap her senseless, but how could he? He had a tough time even shouting at that face, all the time reminding himself that this was an imposter! And at the end when he had to face the two Jaimes in the basement of that clinic, only the bionics could tell them apart. Though he had to admit to himself, Jamie did make a pretty figure in all kinds of outfits. May it be a wrestling squaw or a beauty queen contestant. She was beautiful in all kinds of clothes. --- With a heavy sigh Oscar broke out of his reverie and got slowly up from the couch, to refill his glass. What had brought up this kind of melancholy? Right, the marriage of his two best friends the day before. While he was pouring himself another glass, his eyes wandered to a picture on the shelf. Jaime and himself, years ago. Locked in a friendly embrace and smiling. “Oh Jaime…” he sight and then cursed when he spilled the Whiskey over his hand. After he cleaned up the mess, he returned to the couch, leaned back and closed his eyes. He should have known, he never had a chance. Jaime and Steve were made for each other, from the day they met. He also wasn’t the first man to fall hopelessly in love with Jaime Sommers. There were so many men along the way..so many. Even now it hurt, remembering all those guys that befriended and loved Jaime. Michael Marchetti and Chris Williams for a start. And he also knew that they couldn’t help themselves just as he couldn’t help himself because Jaime was who she was. His close working relationship didn’t help. And all the excuses that he told himself over the decades sounded more and more hollow. He was too old, he was her boss, she was meant for Steve etc. 6. Not only did she look stunning in all kinds of clothes, also her voice wasn’t that bad. Oscar could send her to all kinds of contest, beauty contest, posing as a country singer, a card dealer and whatnot. She did it all with a grace that was unearthly. But as real as her grace were also the dangers, that Oscar put her into. After all she was an OSI agent and he had to send her on dangerous missions, because she was especially equipped for it with her Bionics. Safe cracking with her ear, speeding from one place to another, jumping over high voltage fences, the like. He lost a lot of agents during his time at the OSI, but never was his heart heavier as when he had to send Jaime out (or Steve for that matter, he was his best pal after all). She was mostly his last resort, when everything else failed. And every time he hoped, it wouldn’t be her last mission.. Somehow that got him to think about the so-called Fembots of Dr. Franklin. Now there was a disturbed man! And absolute deadly robots that were more than a match for Steves and Jaimes Bionics. It all started out with the test of a weather-control-device. And then there was the talk from Jaime about appreciation for his secretary Peggy Callahan. So he invented his Women-Appreciation-Week, starting with a lunch-date with Jaime. At least he intended to..until his kidnapping. He remembered vividly the taping of that special video for exactly that case. It was calculated and with hardly any emotion. The only mistake was, that he never thought there could be others involved, too. In this case, Lynda, Rudys secretary and Callahan. Oscar remembered very well how shocked he was, to find those two women with him in captivity and almost saw their corpses aside his, when all he wanted to avoid was that the secrets he carried in his head could be discovered by an enemy and used against his country. It was agonizing to see what was going on at the side of the crazy man Franklin. His Doppelganger leaving with Steve and Lynda and then the order to kill Jaime. That order did make his heart skip a beat. In his head he screamed “NO! Not Jaime!” but he kept silent and suffered quietly. He also had to be strong for Callahan, who was still by his side, when they witnessed the damage the infernal weather device caused. He felt so helpless, but stubbornly maintained a sliver of hope, that Jamie and Steve could somehow manage to come to their rescue and he wasn’t disappointed. Soon enough Franklin told him, that his Bionic Woman was on the island and it was all that Oscar could do, not to jump for joy. If memory serves right, he could also see hope in Callahans eyes, when they looked at each other. But then the crazed man threatened to kill Oscar to lure Jaime out of hiding. Oscar wasn’t concerned about his life, only about the life of his friends, especially Jaimes, so he had to keep a cool posture and stoic face when Franklin said that the girl seemed especially concerned about him. It cut deep into Oscars heart when Franklin told him that he wouldn’t kill him, but just make sure that neither Steve nor Jaime would reach the complex alive. Another wave of helplessness washed over him, masked by years of training to never show what he felt on the inside. It was hell! Still he made a plea to not hurt Jaime, but Franklin told him, that she wasn’t invited. In his mind Oscar played every scenario of hurting Franklin, if he ever got the chance, over and over again. A quick death was too good for that guy. Then the storm increased and the thunder. What did he say to Callahan? She said thunder terrified her and he told her “The time for terror is when the thunder stops,” because Franklin wouldn’t stop until Steve and Jaime were dead. He read the fear in Callahans eyes and tried to comfort her as best he could, all the while trying not to show that he was as terrified as she was. For both his friends out there. What came next surprised Oscar. Franklin told them the situation and let them go, but wanted to stay behind. After a feeble attempt to persuade the crazy scientist to come with him, Oscar and Callahan made a run for it. At the end of one corridor they met Steve and Jaime, Steve guided Oscar and Callahan outside while Jaime convinced Franklin to come with them, which he did after a short discussion. “The best things are the things man can’t control.” That statement from the crazed scientist made Oscar think. Seemed the man wasn’t that crazed after all. At least he knew when he was beat. Only in years to come did Oscar finally know that this statement was only too true. But not in a good way.. |

7. Even posing as a nun didn’t diminish Jaimes attraction. A bionic nun with an angelic face, just what every convent needs. Then there was the time he had her enrolled into the Police Academy to uncover an enemy spy. Well, he was right, she did look great in a uniform! Of course being a Police Officer albeit a fake one, on the streets is not an easy task. What’s the saying? It’s a jungle out there. Oscar could see the fear and terror in those blue eyes and hoped, she saw the desperation and worry in his. There just wasn’t another choice. At times like this he wished he’d never met Jaime Sommers. So his stomach wouldn’t be in knots most of the time she was on assignment. He told her there was only one thing more dangerous than being an undercover agent and that was being a cop. Oscar lost count on how many times he told her to be careful, or don’t worry. At least two or three times per mission. Try as he might, he just couldn’t stop thinking about what could possibly go wrong and that the next call he’d get was to tell him that Jamie was shot or stabbed or something on the street or in a dark alley or somewhere. Years later Oscar still didn’t know how he got through all that mostly unharmed in body and mind. He watched the argument the Comissioner had with his daughter when he found out she was Officer “Smith”. She accused him that he was hard on her because she was his daughter and he wanted to protect her and the Comissioner told her: “Yes baby, I want you to be alive.” Oscar felt for that woman, but could only shrug. Of course he knew what the Comissioner meant, and although Oscar was no father, it was exactly what he always tried to tell Jaime. Only not in so many words, but he hoped that she understood, clever girl that she was. The whole plot was revealed when the convoy with the premier took another route than planned and one of the officers pulled a gun on them. Again it was Oscars hope that Jaime came to their rescue. It turned out that the whole thing was orchestrated by Parker, the one person who was the least suspected. Later Oscar scolded himself because it was too clear. The perfect plan. Too bad he didn’t see it sooner. But then Jaime and her partner Welton came barreled into the precinct and saved the day and the premier. And the OSI wouldn’t be what it was if not for some unusual cases too. The Biofeedback-Case with the brothers Peyton and Darwin Jones. Because there were some funding cuts, Peyton packed up his code analyzer and fled the country to defect because a foreign party offered him more money and because he was jealous of his brother, who got all the funding he needed because of this biofeedback technique. And of course shortly after Jaime went on the assignment into East-Germany, the brother vanished and followed her. He was one grumpy Snow white and she was Dopey and told him that Doc was with her. The mission was vital because there also was a list of agents involved which, in the wrong hands could lead to a massive bloodbath. As usual Jaime, this time with the help of Doctor Peyton, braved all the obstacles and returned the lost brother back to his country. 8. One of the most dangerous assignments was her battle against Alex 7000 the computer. First there was the televised speech of Dr. Elijah Cooper about the cobalt bomb and the thread to destroy all life on earth. Oscar was shocked to say the least. The meeting at the United Nations was long and difficult but the countries agreed to do as Cooper had asked with a slight change. As one of the scientist, the French Margaret Perry, is female, Oscar had the brilliant idea and the backing of Nato, to replace Perry with Jaime, because Doctor Cooper never met those scientists. So there was a heated discussion aboard Air Force One about this. Jaime argued that her French was okay, but had no scientific value, Rudy, who was one of the chosen scientists, told them that if Cooper says he has such a Doomsday device, it was highly probable that he did. But Oscar doubted Coopers sanity and told them to be careful because if Cooper was mad, they didn’t know in what kind of a situation they were getting into. Especially if Jaimes cover was lifted. After the activation Cooper let all four of them go and the UN did agree to Coopers demands and issued a ban of nuclear testing. But of course there was one who didn’t care. Satari and his middle east country have decided not to take part in the talks about Doctor Cooper and deemed this Doomsday device as a Super Power plot to keep third world countries from expanding their nuclear capabilities. Oscar was livid! There would be a atmospheric nuclear test five hours later. Rudy, Russ, Oscar and Jaime were all still just outside of Coopers facility. A recon helicopter was send in, but he was shot down, by the defense system, that Alex controlled. The UN sent an emergency force into Sataris country. All the while Rudy tried to contact Cooper in his complex, but all communications were shut down. So Oscar decided to go overland and try to disarm the Doomsday device before the nuclear test was made. Russ argued that it was impossible and that the loss of men would be too great. Then Jaime asked if Steve was still at Skylab, he was, so that option fell flat. When Jaime asked Rudy, if she could disarm the device, Oscar protested, but they didn’t have a lot of options, she reminded him. All he could do was to look at her, while Russ explained the terrain and where it would be the easiest to enter the area. Rudy told her that maybe if she disabled the main memory banks of the computer it would stop the device. So she ran off. Again all Oscar, Rudy and Russ could do, was to watch her disappear into the deadly area and hope for the best. Soon they heard the explosions and it was all Oscar could do, not to follow Jaime into the dangerous Area. One almost could hear the relief when Jaimes voice was heard by radio. She told them that there was another agent with her, who was also one of the scientists and also an imposter. Rudy argued that Muscov was one of the soviets top men and could help her immense. Oscar agreed on the condition that the other agent could keep up. There was a brief question about Jaimes Bionics, but Oscar somehow knew that if it got worse, Jaime would have to use them and explain. A small price in exchange for the end of life on earth. Soon Oscar told her, that they would go to a Bradley Air Force base and that Satari had started his countdown. Jaime had 3 hours and 37 minutes. At the Airforce Base Oscar told Russ what he wanted and how he wanted it. He had a job and he was good at doing it. Thoughts of Jaime and the danger she was in were forcefully pushed to the back of his mind, so it wouldn’t distract him. The detonator was set to 1h 41 minutes. Rudy said out loud what everybody thought: “Jaime and Dimitry don’t have much time.” No one argued with that. Jaime didn’t call for a long time, but Rudy told him, that maybe he could stop the doomsday device with another bomb, to counter the effect. “On top of the Doomsday device ..on top of Jaime?!” “Don’t you think I know that, how do you think I feel?!” Oscar argued about fallout, radiation. Rudy told him, if his computations were right they would cancel each other out. Even Russ told Oscar they should at least try. Oscar still argued what would happen to Jaime but Russ asked what would happen to all the other people? Russ and Rudy were right of course, so Oscar said that they had to do whatever they could to back up Jaime no matter the cost. So they did it. A B52 would be prepared and with the permission of the President they would try to make it work. Oscar knew when he looked over to Rudy that the doctor felt as helpless as he. Wells was the last person who wanted to see Jaime dead, she was like a daughter to him. 3 hours to doomsday another message came in and with it the launch of missiles. The B52 with Rudys bomb on board took off and Oscar submitted the codes 404 for go and 808 for the recall of the plane. The doomsday device was at 1h 48 minutes. And still no word from Jaime. Rudy suggested that they should tell the world about the doomsday device, but what good would that do? He voiced again all those thought that were also running through Oscars head. All the innocent people. They didn’t know that they would all be dead tomorrow. Still Oscar hoped against hope that Jaime would succeed. Just like she always did. And then there was another transmission from the Doomsday doctor. “The failsafe of the Doomsday device was triggered and the countdown clock will advance. The end is now upon humanity.” 20 seconds. Nothing happened. The channels were open again. The first thing he did was to call Jaime who told him there was no bomb. Oscar was so glad about it. But then the channel was closed again. All communications were jammed so they tried to send the recall code to their onboard computer but there was no confirmation. “OMG we wanted to help and now we are the ones who are dropping a bomb onto Jaime!” Oscar thought. He ordered a fighter to intercept but Russ said they would never make it on time. And finally, when everybody thought it was over, the recall code was confirmed. All life on earth would go on. Cooper was a man of peace after all. |

well, thanks, for the praise ^^ i'm a german gal ^^ so german is my native language, but after school i tried not to forget english and since a lot of books or series are only in english, i did have a lot of practice. also i do love to listen to the original voices instead of the handfull dubbers that exist in germany ^^. i try to write more, but since i'm again in school, learning, there is unfortunately not much time, so i'll ask you all to be a bit more patient with me. there will be more, promise!!
