It is my VERY strong opinion that the IOC needs to take a good long look at eligibility requirements to compete in the Womens Gymnastics All Around. Tonight, Jordan Wieber (current world champion) came in just 2 tenths of a point behind her two team mates and because of the rule that states the best two from each team move on to the All Around....Jordon fell just short of the requirement. I understand that rules are rules. I do! But in a list of the top 24 scores for the night, Jordon came in 4th - and the 20 girls who scored beneath her are all moving on to compete in the All Around...while Jordon is not. Athletes who scored a full 5 points lower than Jordon made the list! Is this fair or - for future Olympics - should the rule be changed to allow the top 24 GYMNASTS (from whatever country they might represent) to compete - as they pulled the 24 highest scores? What do you think? |
