I know the National Security Bureau was led by Jack Hansen. Jack was a by the books bureaucrat whose organization seemed to provide oversight (maybe?), to the OSI, like in "Kill Oscar", and maybe even in "On The Run" (which I haven't seen in a while). Was the NSB an equivalent to the OSI? I would like to know how others interpreted what that particular agency did, versus the OSI or CIA. Speaking of which, did Chris Williams work for the CIA (in Cannon), or was that my imagination (and was that an unconfirmed fact caught in the Black Hole? I think I understood that Jack Hansen was an equivalent of Oscar Goldman, but definitely an antagonistic figure. But really, what power did he have over the OSI, or did he have any? What do people think??? I am curious about other's take on his role and NSB, may think of writing a story, but I have questions about NSB. Please respond as you can, I really feel unsure (and I actually don't own the 3rd season of BW to answer my own questions -I will own it someday, but just bought all Six Mill. Seasons from time life) [that was a hunk-and a hunk of money] but worth it...yum. |

His personal team is made up of Level 12 Security Clearance men. I got the impression that while he is the NSB equivalent of Oscar Goldman, if it came down to a vote between the two, his decision would prevail. His word and decision prevailed in Kill Oscar. I have written him both ways (as simply an equivalent and as having ultimate decision power over the Intel community.) The actual function of the NSB - and Hansen - was left somewhat unclear in the series, although it was strongly implied. Remember that this is fanfiction. You can make of him what you choose. Someone once reminded me that you can make them tightrope walkers if you choose to do so. (And just to show her - or to be obnoxious - I did!) Anyhow, make of Jack Hansen and the NSB whatever you need them to be, as even going fully within canon, his actual function is somewhat unclear. Would love to see you write a story! Be careful; it's like eating potato chips. Once you start and try one, it is nearly impossible to stop! |

Anyone else have a point of view? Who are they, and who is Jack Hansen? |

I would liken it to the CIA and FBI, each director has power but to different degrees and jurisdictions (for lack of a better word). |

In the episode of The Jailing of Jaime the NSB described themselves as the policy keepers. "Some agencies are unable to police themselves". So I guess they would rank if they thought something was being done wrong or incorrectly. That was my take of that quote anyway.

I found them in China, Syria and Poland. The closest real-life agency (that we know of, anyhow) here is the FBI. |

As I'm not living in the United States, this is what my imagination could say about NSB, OSI and CIA according to what I've seen in "The Bionic Woman". I think that CIA is dealing with intelligence matters mainly abroad and perhaps sometimes inside the country in order to maintain it security and integrity. OSI, is dealing with information and intelligence only for scientific matters : protecting and providing means for scientists from other countries who have defected, working on new projects with the Army... And for me NSB is acting only inside the country and has a role of survey of the others agencies. His main job is avoiding leakages of secrets information at all costs including killing Oscar if he his kidnapped instead of rescuing him or putting retired spies in their "resorts" for a certain time. Due to this task, NSB should be a little "higher" than the other agencies for that matter. Bionika Edited by Bionika, Feb 18 2013, 11:30 PM.

I think Chris Williams is working for CIA but I'm not sure, I should watch again the episode in which he appears ( they aren't my favourite one's). In fact there are only four : "The pyramid, Antidote, Sanctuary Earth" and "On the run". I'm not sure that he belongs to CIA because it seems that he changes of agency in each of these episodes. On "pyramid" he is responsible for a rocket lauching. Was he working for OSI because the lauching and test about regenerating ozone layer is carried by OSI..or for NASA because it involves a rocket...or for the lauching center? I think that it's in "Antidote" that it is said that he is working for CIA. In "Sanctuary Earth", he is clearly doing a assigment for OSI with Rudy. Finally he is shown as one of Jaime's colleague (so from OSI) which NSB will survey in "On the run". Bionika Edited by Bionika, Feb 19 2013, 04:43 PM.

That one has always confused me too. On some of Chris' episodes, I could swear he says 'CIA' and on others, 'OSI'. Somewhere, I think I have a screenshot of his CIA ID card. (Maybe he got loaned out from one organization to the other...?) |
