There was never (as far as I can tell) anything in Oscar's behavior that suggested he thought of Jaime as a daughter, and as Oscarfan says, Richard Anderson played it like he was in love with her. If you thought he was like a father it was just because he was older. Do you really think he would think of Steve like a brother just because his own brother died what - thirty years earlier? Sam was Oscar's older brother, and I really doubt he could ever see Steve as any kind of a parallel. (I may be wrong about that, but it just strikes me as unlikely.) That said, he clearly regards Steve as a good friend. Anyway, we'll have to agree to disagree! Actually there are a lot more Oscar and Jaime fans out there - they just don't contribute to this board. We can't ALL have pulled that connection out of thin air!! As far as I'm concerned, Steve and Jaime don't seem like a pair at all - even if they do have matching parts. |

I do like Jaime and Oscar's chemistry together, but here's a question for the Jaime/Oscar shippers among us: Oscar has always considered Steve to be a close friend, so how could he even consider a relationship with the woman Steve loves so deeply? Doesn't that speak not-so-well about his moral code.....? It's nice that the various viewpoints can co-exist so peacefully here! B) |

Until the last episode, Oscar never acted on his feelings. By that time Steve was written out of the picture. I think that says a lot about his morale code. One can be in love with someone without saying anything at all. When he told Jaime that he loved her, he clearly never expected to see her again. |

So Oscar falls for Jaime, keeps it to himself, then she and Steve split up (and she is not in love with him anymore), and Steve apparently moves on (dating other women), and then Jaime falls for Oscar, perhaps a year or two later - is he really supposed to deny himself what might be a lifetime of happiness because his friend almost married her years ago? That would be crazy! As for Steve, if I were him I could well imagine feeling totally pissed at Oscar, but I wouldn't feel I had the right to be angry. In fact, wouldn't you feel guilty if you knew two people were crazy about each other but stayed apart because they were worried about your feelings? As for Jaime, she would have every right to be angry with both of them. If they have this gentleman's agreement that Oscar should not date Steve's ex, neither of them are considering her feelings, which are 50% of the equation, and they're treating her like a possession! Now if Oscar put the moves on her while she was with Steve, that would be despicable - or if he tried anything right after their break up, it would be opportunistic - but otherwise I just don't get why he shouldn't. One of you characters want to explain it to me? |

Richard may say that he played it like Oscar was in love with Jaime, but how did he play it that way? Was it because he looked at her in a different way or spoke to her in a different tone than he did with Steve? I think many viewers just chalked that up to Oscar having a typical and natural male reaction to a young beautiful woman. I don't doubt that Oscar and Jaime loved each other as friends/family, but there was never any indication that they were IN love with each other. Yeah, they had chemistry, but no more than what Lindsay has had with just about everyone else she has ever worked with over the years. There was no romance between Jaime and Oscar for viewers to see, to get totally swept up in and to root for like with Jaime and Steve. But the most important thing to consider is, if Oscar was in love with Jaime, why was he trying to get her back together with Steve in the first reunion movie? He even said "Way to go pal" after they finally walked down the isle. If he was IN love with her, had he gotten over her by then after finally realizing that she was never IN love with him? |

I remember reading it in a article while the show was running. A few years back another friend showed me a similar article. I think we have too much fun here to get into an intense debate:) We can all keep our opinions and still have a good time! |

Nobody is saying there was an enormous amount of evidence to suggest that Oscar and Jaime had it bad for each other, because there isn't a lot - just some nice moments. (Just like there's NO evidence to suggest he thought of her as a daughter!) And there is some pretty clear evidence they were at the very least attracted to each other. It's not specifically stated, but it is very clearly acted. I think they did have quite a bit more chemistry than she did with others on the show, for one thing because Richard is capable of creating chemistry to compliment hers, and for another because they occasionally played it up. That's what all we O/J fans saw, and that's what we liked - and sometimes NOT seeing it is more powerful than having the whole thing played out in front of you. To me the attraction between them was always more exciting and more powerful than the whole Steve and Jaime thing. That's all there is to it really. It's not at all a question of who is wrong and who is right. |

I have to admit, there were some scenes - like on the tennis court in Welcome Home Jaime - where they sizzled together. And RA (or Oscar) gave a 'look' just before he said "Way to go, Pal," that gave a slight nod to possible infatuation and/or love. So it was there. And I really liked the way they were when they were together. But I am a sucker for a good love story....childhood sweethearts, reunited, parted by death and reunited again....!

I can also - on very rare occasions - swing in Roger's direction. But if Steve ever pulled a "Ground control to Major Tom" type disappearance, then Jaime should absolutely be with Oscar. There might just be a story in that.....! B) |

Interesting that of all the topics on the board, this one is by FAR the most viewed! (Followed by 70's trivia, which is still viewed only half as much! |
