Yeah but according to the series Oscar was 11 when Pearl Harbor happened which means he was born in 1930. That would make him 19 years older than Jaime - if you go by her age in the titles and NOT by the fact that she's supposed to be 3 or 4 years younger than Steve. Now a 19 year old IS old enough to be a father, but not REALLY. (He shouldn't be a father at nineteen, that's for sure.) Yes, Richard is old enough to be Lindsay's father, but so what? He's NOT her father. It's not incest. I just don't see that it matters. (Not that I'm suggesting they had a romantic relationship, but if they did - what's the problem?) |

The number of Hollywood couples, past and present, on screen and off, that have more than a 19 year old age span are too numerous to mention. I don't see why adding Jaime and Oscar to the mix presents a problem. I COULD begin and end with Cary Grant - 25 yrs. senior to Audrey Hepburn AND Grace Kelly, 20 yrs. senior to Eva Marie Saint AND Doris Day, 30 years senior to Sophia Loren - just to name a few

You're right! I don't see any problem with the age difference between Oscar and Jaime either. There is nothing unusual about it. Like you said there are so many examples. With Cary Grant, you can add Leslie Caron, 27 years younger in 'Father Goose'. There's also Clark Gable who was 21 years older than Doris Day, Ava Gardner, and Yvonne de Carlo as well as 25 years senior to Marilyn Monroe and 28 years older than Grace Kelly. The list could go on! |

It does not matter to me either but I read somewhere that Cary Grant was proposed to play with Audrey Hedburn in Roman Holidays and in Sabrina the part of Humphrey Bogart, he refused because he found himself too old to play his lover, he accepted to play Charade with her at the condition she was in love with him but not he. Strange, eh ? Principally when he married a young woman when he was 82. Elise

I don't know...I guess I just have more respect for older guys who are attracted to women their own age. I mean with alot of these men in real life...it's not like it is in the movies...where they just happen to meet a woman, fall in love with her and that woman just happens to be half his age. I believe more times than not that a guy is with a much younger woman because that's all he goes after because he's turned off by older women. It's like who the hell do these men think they are!? They might be unattractive themselves, but they think they deserve some young beautiful woman...and you know what? If they got the big bucks...they usually get that young beautiful woman regardless of what they look like. That my friends is much closer to the reality of life...not what we see with the likes of Gary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in the movies. |

I don't know...I don't really think 20 years is such a huge difference once your an adult. I also don't think men (or women for that matter) should be limited to people their own age. Now, if the only reason they're dating the much younger person is for physical reasons, that's one thing - but you don't need to date someone younger than you to base your relationship only on physical attractiveness. Sure, you may find it easier to find someone with whom you have a lot in common if they ARE closer to your own age, but that isn't always the case. I also think before we judge the men too harshly for being with the young chippie, we ought to think about the women who are with the old geexer only for his money - ala Anna Nicole Smith. Her hubby hardly had to talk her into marrying him. Maybe some of the young women are just tired of the immaturity of men their own age and want someone more willing to commit to a relationship. |

Well I agree with you for the most part Tigerlily. I think there are a lot of men out there trophy hunting, who need to have their masculinity propped up by a younger woman. Happily we're not talking about real life when we're talking about Oscar. . . I do believe however that couples with some kind of age span between them can have really good relationships, and that there are some people who got together because it was right for them and not coming out of some weird icky desires. I know people like that and I would never dream of looking at their relationships from a cynical point of view. Also from a biological point of view I think there's a good case for older men and younger women in terms of survival of the species. Younger men are notoriously unreliable, and prone to running off and getting killed. Older men are usually more stable and more reliable and thus a better bet if you want to bring babies into the world. That's why men remain "fertile" longer, I think. |

I don't think you can generalize about relationships and motivations for them. Yes, there are some men who need a much younger woman for their ego and younger women who will marry for money and prestige but then there are many other couples where that doesn't come into it. I know several couples who aren't close in age and they have great relationships. What matters most is that they are in love, share interests and values and provide each other with the sense of security and fulfillment that is necessary for any relationship to work. Should they have missed that chance of happiness just because their ages don't match? Of course not! |

I love that shot in the Martians episode. Look at how he's looking at her in the top one....They were so cute together in the video clip... the perfect combination (Except for the clothes of course - yikes! Black pantyhose with shorts - what WAS she thinking????) It also looks like she's wearing Oscar's glasses in that scene doesn't it???

I have always fallen in love for the old guys (seen from my age), i. e. 20 years older at least. However, these old guys are actors and not guys next door. As for me, I could not imagine being together with a man who could be my dad "in real life". The older you get the more important the age span becomes, I think. The interests differ. |

I think it all depends on the person. For me I think the older I get the less important the age span becomes. I've always had friends of all ages and I've liked it very much because I can enjoy different things with them. I've never wanted to have friends and serious relationships with only those of my age group. Some of my best relationships have been/ are with friends older than me. |

When I was in my early to mid-twenties, I would say my friends were mainly from school and work and were about my age. Once I hit late twenties, it started to change - maybe as work changed - but I also find I have friends of all ages - younger and older. I think there's always a tendency to say you don't want to date someone your dad's age, but I think its more that you don't want to date your dad's friends. At least for me it is. I could totally see dating someone much older - just not some guy I knew when I was really little and grew up with. Otherwise, I think there are lots of 50 and 60 year old men who would be quite fun and interesting. |
