Oscar called Steve 'Pal'....and called Jaime 'Babe'. He also seemed to allow Jaime to get away with things that he'd never tolerate from a male operative - such as putting her head on the desk and pouting!

What do YOU think?

don't forget 1) it was still in the 70's 2) Babe was a term of affection Not a dis)
and 3) the way he almost always looked at her when he said it.

I don't think he was a chauvanist. I think he was smitten! Sigh. He could call me "babe" anytime.

No, I think if Oscar were a chauvanist, he would have never aloud a woman to become bionic or come to work for him. How about Steve though, first he goes and asks Oscar to make Jaime bionic telling him she can work for OSI, all without her permission no less. Then when Oscar comes to call on Jaime for her 1st assignment, Steve tries to get all macho and tell him she's not working for the OSI. Jaime however, stands up to Steve (in a nice way) and he backs down like a puppy with his tail between his legs. Remember when he's sulking on the plane ride to Rona's house and she's trying to reassure him? Wasn't it cute the way she kissed her finger and put it to his lips and he kissed it back?

He called her babe because it was his own special way of displaying his affection for her?

Do you when think he FINALLY said 'I love you' that he meant man/woman or family-type love? He did say she was the closest thing to family that he had....

I have to say I always felt Oscar loved Jaime. In the way a man loves a woman. He worried about her far too much for it to have been anything else IMHO. Maybe he never acted on it because he was afraid of Steve's reaction??? Come to think of it, I think Rudy probably did (loved her) too!

You're probably right - he didn't want to hurt Steve, one of his best friends, and (sob!) sacrificed his own happiness in the process.
When Rudy walked Jaime down the aisle at her (far too long-delayed) wedding, how cool was that!?!

I thought it was great. They really were a family and the wedding scene kinda brought it home so to speak.

And Oscar's face! He managed to look happy for them and yet wistfully sad at the same time!

aawwwww....nooo Oscar a chauvinist?? NEVER!!!
There are sooo many scenes where he is just short of drooling over Jamie...and some lines are just sooo....in love...the looks and the voice...the timbre in his voice...."...and besides..i have seen you once in a cowboy dress....."..and all the time he tells her how good she looks in...almost everything...
no doubtr about the fact that he loves her...truly and deeply...but never let it show too much..

And who doesn't love Jamie, once met? Rudy sure loves her also...

and Steve....i don't have to tell you that HE surely does...;)

Hell, I love Jamie!! *fg* yide 432q18

Yes, the writers and LW made Jaime very easy to love and along with her great personality, she was beautiful too. Kenny Smith said that Jaime was written very close to LW's own personality.
