The only mission I can think of that either Steve or Jaime ever successfully refused was when Steve wouldn't go to Budapest.

It's usually Oscar who wants to pull them out of a mission because it gets too dangerous but they are determined to see it through.

I think Oscar's just a big old softie at heart. I love when he's reticent to send her out on a mission. It looks sometimes like he wants to just plant a big ole' wet kiss on her.

Still wish Kenny would've filmed that scene with Steve as Miss Phyllis - where Oscar plants a big ole wet one on HIM! ````

Oops - should've said Mr. Phyllis! From the last note I got from Kenny J:

My pleasure, Beth...

Jim Parriott and I actually wrote a teaser scene once where Oscar was sending Steve undercover as a hairdresser -- Mr. Phyllis. Then Oscar came around the desk and gave him a big wet kiss for good luck.

Sadly, we never filmed it.

Who was the bigger chauvinist - Oscar, Steve or Chris? Why?
With the greatest of reluctance, I would have to say Steve. Just because of his speech to Oscar about how he could let Jaime work for the OSI.

No, Oscar isn't a chauvinist. He respects Jaime, and even if it's getting dangerous, he is still confident.
He worries about her, but let her do her own thing.

Steve on the other hand is a perfect example of a macho.
He decides on the bionic surgery for Jaime and that she goes on missions, and then he says NO! Everything without asking her.
But Jaime is her own boss and goes on missions anyway.

The episode Pal-Mir Escort shocked me, it shows Steve's thinking about women.

And it is not because I am a child of the 80s. Even for a 70s series a bit old fashioned. ;)

Oscar is much softer-spoken and in some ways more permissive with Jaime... but upon reflection, I think that may be the polar opposite of chauvinism. Oscar is, in fact, respecting her gender. It's really a credit to Richard's ability that we are able to see two very distinct styles of dealing with two very different agents, with both ways coming off as completely believable and natural.
