Yes, James Caan who is Jewish played a very convincing Italian in "The Godfather" and was even nominated for an Oscar.

Yeah, he's permenantly stuck in my mind as an Italian. That was a great performance. But there are SO many - like Paul Newman, for instance... (though only his Dad was Jewish).

There was a HUGE blooper in that funeral scene...
Did anyone else notice it? (It was still an extremely well-acted scene - wasn't the actors who screwed up.)

Do tell...

Oops - I really dropped the ball on this one! Here's the blooper:
During the funeral scene at the end, the ship is supposed to be out at sea, but you can see a shallow water buoy floating nearby during a couple of shots, as well as the reflections of buildings in the water.

Wow - you've been digging through the archives!

BTW, lately I've watched four episodes which made me think Oscar isn't a chauvinist. Other than his initial hesitation, he sees Jaime as totally capable, and other than calling her Babe and giving her kisses, he's not patronizing or fresh, nor does he refer to her as "a lady" or a "girl". He does pretty well for a 70's guy.

His initial hesitation was because of "all she's been through", rather than the fact that she was a woman. Early on, it was Steve who didn't want her on assignments because she was a woman...and his girlfriend!

I know I'm painfully biased, but I honestly do think Steve is a far bigger chauvinist than Oscar - more so in SMDM.

I definitely agree with you, but the OSI as a whole was pretty biased, too. Where were all the female operatives....?

In "In This Corner..." Oscar says to Jaime that she is the only female OSI agent who can handle the case - so I guess they do exist, but maybe they all took a magical elixir that made them invisible.

Maybe there were alot of other female agents, but Oscar preferred to call on Jaime all the time as an excuse to see her.

I'm sure Oscar has played his own private version of that scene many times over in his mind...!

With the monkey, you mean? Just kidding.

Yes! I'm sure he did.

I was thinking how great (and amazingly subtle) it was to have the subtext of Oscar's unacknowledged feelings running through that show - subtle enough that some viewers wouldn't even see it, and definitely there for those who did. Usually everything in shows of that era was laid out so that you couldn't possibly miss it - they practically plastered all emotions onto billboards - so I think it's kind of great that TBW left something unsaid, but still there.

If only the writers would've picked it up and run with it! The love triangle (with Steve, not the chimp) would've been fascinating!
