I TALK TOO MUCH! LOL!

She does appear outwardly to be rather fragile, so I can see Oscar's point.

Who was the bigger chauvinist - Oscar, Steve or Chris? Why?

Well Steve is definitely a bit of a chauvinist. ("The Pal-Mir Escort" shows that he has difficulty with the concept of a woman prime minister.) I think he's more that way in SMDM, but he does try to make Jaime's decision for her when she's supposed to go on her first mission, at which point she sets him straight by telling him "You can't speak for me."

Oscar doesn't seem to be particularly chauvinistic. And I'm not saying this because I'm biased. We all know I'm biased, but really, it's true. He doesn't have any difficulty with the woman prime minister at all - in fact he's quite respectful to her. He believes in Jaime's abilities before Steve does.

Chris? Don't even remember the guy! Anybody else have a perspective on Chris?

I don't know if you'd call Chris a chauvinist or not, but he wasn't very supportive of Jaime fighting for her right to be free to live her own life in "On The Run." He thought she should just give up and go along with the Government wanting to put her in some sort of retired agent community where they could keep a closely guarded eye on her the rest of her life. He even told Jaime she was just feeling sorry for herself after she complained to him about it. What a jerk!!!

Of course that's probably why no one seems to like him. I like the story (I think it was B4e's) where he's already on the island in some sort of brain wash state....That bout says it all.

I definitely agree with you, but the OSI as a whole was pretty biased, too.  Where were all the female operatives....?

I can't remember the episode or the direct quote, but Oscar is sucking up to her saying she's the most beautiful woman in the OSI (and some GUY is a sucker for beautiful women...) So...what do all the other female agents at the OSI look like? ```` ```` They're probably all completely jealous of her.... I don't remember Steve being given a mission because of his looks.

In "Bionic Beauty" after J & O hugged hello, she apologizes to him for being such a mess and explains that she had been chopping wood and cleaning out the fireplace. Oscar tells her that she looks terrific and that he bets she used to be a Prom Queen and win beauty contests. When she's putting up a fight about being in the Miss United States pagent he tells her she's the most beautiful agent at OSI.

Yes, he flatters her shamelessly and I love the way she rolls her eyes about it all.

That doesn't make him a chauvinist, does it?

The episode is 'Rancho Outcast'. Oscar is telling her about the mission and that one of the few things they know about Boylan is 'he has a great fondness for beautiful ladies'. He then goes on to say 'since you are the most beautiful lady in the OSI..'

I don't think it makes him a chauvinist though. Jaime sees right through it and seems to like it.

Naw, I was just wondering what the other female OSI agents would think. Then again, she is really pretty, so she really COULD be the most beautiful OSI agent.

I agree she really could be 'the most beautiful lady in the OSI', but Oscar would think that, wouldn't he? He hardly has a lot of objectivity in the matter! :)

I don't think Oscar was a chauvinist at all really. He always seems to think Jaime quite capable. I think just because he wants to protect her and worries about her doesn't mean he's a sexist - he just knows how to treat women... Even when he knows it's a dangerous mission, he ha faith a woman can complete it...

I was thinking...I think considering the times, and the sorry state of women's affairs at the time, I think Oscar was really quite a modern man in his thinking. Just because he likes her, he doesn't demean her or think less of her because she's a woman. I don't think he'd want her just puttering around his house looking after him.

Yeah - he is very modern. The only slip I've seen him make is when he calls her a 'lady' -but that's really minor - in fact I can't really figure out what's wrong with calling someone a lady, except that it sounds antiquated. Practically every waiter I've ever met calls me one...not like "So, lady, whaddya want?" but more like "What'll it be, ladies?"
