Oscar never seems that way with her. He appreciates that she is a woman, but I don't think he protects her the same way - sees her more as en equal rather than a vulnerable flower.

He did have one doubt, early on - in Angel of Mercy. He said something to her like "On paper, you look like an agent; when I see you in person, I'm not so sure..."

True... I LOVED that moment - and that he knew she was ready. I think he loved her there and didn't want to let her go, but knew she was capable. If he didn't, it would change the whole dynamic between them,

I agree. Oscar isn't saying he doubts her ability to complete the mission. He's saying 'on paper' he could keep his feelings out of it and send her on a dangerous mission but when he sees her it's very different. It's clear he is struggling to ask her to do it because he knows it's very risky. It's a great scene.

I liked how he defended her in Jailing of Jaime and in On the Run. Not in a chauvinistic way implying she couldn't handle herself, but in a more caring way - you could tell it was REALLY personal - his indignation at her treatment. I thought he did a good job with those scenes...

Absolutely! Very powerful and moving! I thought those were some of Richard's best scenes in the whole series.

I wish they had him work with her more on missions. Then again, he didn't work much with Steve either. But, oh, what an episode that could have been :) I don't know which would be better - an early one where he's still a little unsure of whether or not she's up to the challenge, and he's protective, or one towards the end when they know each other better and he's confident in her abilities. I guess that's where we HAVE had some good fanfiction stories pick up the slack.

I wonder what Jaime would think of Oscar when he's yelling at people over her. "I can take care of myself" or "It's so nice that you care enough to fight for me?" I could see some women's libers not WANTING him to stand up for them.

Yes, or in On the Run. I would think she would be flattered that he cared enough for her that he'd go out on a limb personally and professionally to defend her. While she is confident, I thought she looked a touch uneasy in the office in Jailing of Jaime - maybe a little bit intimidated. I'd have been more than happy to have Oscar on my side.

I think she really appreciated how he supported and defended her in those situations. Although she was strong both physically and in character she could also feel vulnerable and she was very happy to have Oscar there.

I agree I'd be delighted to have him on my side too.

I loved that they didn't make her "macho" just because she was strong. She was still very feminine, and I liked how Oscar saw that, and wanted to take care of her, all the while recognizing she was quite capable. She certainly didn't ever seem to mind either. I loved in Jailing of Jaime when she says he was the only one that was on her side. IHBVK IHBVK What a LOOK she is giving him!!!!

Yes, I liked that too. Although she was strong and capable he still wanted to protect her. She liked it also. I agree that look she gives him at the end of 'Jailing of Jaime' says it all. urzjtu

It was nice too that she couldn't solve everything on her own and needed his help such as at the depot in 'Deadly Ringer'. It made the stories more realistic and interesting.

I liked that part too -about her needing him. She can't do EVERYTHING by herself, and she knows that. Ahhh.. what a great episode that was.... IHBVK

Jaime is a girly girl. And she loves being taken care of by men, as in she is not a feminist. she does believe in teh power of women but why go to all the trouble when a man can do it for you? And she loves knowing that Oscar is always on her side.
