In Love with Oscar
Oct 5 2008, 12:43 PM

What I find very cute is how Oscar - after the tennis court scene - puts Jamie's hand in his before she gets in the plane with Steve's dad. Here I see that he has a total crush on her.  IHBVK

I noticed that too! It tells her how much he cares so discreetly. It happens in an instant but says so much.

Those moments are so tiny and so sweet.

I like in Kill Oscar how they talk about that they know of Jaime's "strong emotional attachment" to Oscar.... So it appears everyone knows they are in love except them :) It looked like he was talking just to her at the end too...

Which part of "Kill Oscar" was it?

I'm sorry, I meant the end of his video message where he tells them to kill him....

I still don't get it why he allows others to kill him. Is there any sense?

Yes, that's similar to the Secretary saying that Oscar couldn't be objective because of his 'high regard' for Jaime in 'Jailing of Jaime'.

Oscar felt that the chance of his rescuers being killed was too high (making rescue out of the question), and that killing him was kinder than what his captors would put him through.

But you'd have to get close to him to kill him, just as you would to rescue him, so the danger for would be rescuers/killers is much the same. I still don't get it.

I agree and I think he was also worried about revealing information that would put others in danger like Jaime.

That's just another reason he is so wonderful.... He would never want Jaime to be hurt because of him. Though if they could GET to him, I still don't know why they'd SHOOT him instead of just grabbing hi and getting the heck outta there. Besides, he HAD to know Jaime would never let them kill him.

I think the intent would be to bomb the place from a distance, rather than move in and shoot him.

I think the intent would be to bomb the place from a distance, rather than move in and shoot him.

But these people are sent in on dangerous missions all the time - why would rescuing Oscar be any more dangerous than anything else they do every day of the week?

I think your idea that he doesn't want to endanger people on his behalf is the best theory I've heard, Beth, but it still doesn't work for me - for one thing I don't think he mentions anything in that tape about not wanting to endanger rescuers, does he?

They couldn't possibly kill him with a bomb - bombs are famously inexact, and then there's a very good chance you would kill innocent people in the process. In Kill Oscar he's held in a nice out of the way location, but what if the janitor got killed along with him? Bombs take out innocent bystanders.

What strikes me is that if they know where he is and he hasn't been tortured to reveal state secrets, why go and kill a perfectly good OSI director like that? They're going to have to go in there to deal with the bad people who are detaining him anyway. And if he has already confessed everything he knows, it's like shutting the barn door after the horse has got out.
