I think this moment in "Welcome Home Jaime" is really interesting. This is the second time we've had the opportunity to see that Oscar is really gone on Jaime. It's hard to get it in screen grabs, but I've tried! They're talking about the mission, and he tells her he's proud of her. She asks him how Steve is. So in frame 1: He breaks eye contact for the first time and says Steve is fine and he sends his love. (Interesting that he breaks eye contact while talking about Steve. Steve Schmeve, he's thinking.) 2. Jaime says to send love back to him. 3. (This is the interesting frame.) Oscar does not reply! Instead he just gazes at her in that soft, smiley, smitten way. 4. It's almost as though she gets the message, because she looks down, and changes the subject, telling him she thinks she's going to be okay. 5. He agrees, and I can still see the little hearts floating over his head. (Like this )6. She looks really pleased. It's a nice moment, and she is so cute. There is definitely a lot of nonverbal communication going on there!

Wow! You've done a great job capturing those moments between them. I agree. There's a lot going on there that's not said. There's definitely that awkward feel when Steve is mentioned and then it's gone once Jaime changes the subject. I love that look he's giving her. That really is !

Yeah, it's actually quite obvious, isn't it? 70's TV is not exactly known for subtext, so the fact that these two cooked some up is really wonderful. Still, I could have used less subtext and more blatancy! |

So true! While I enjoy stories that have the challenge of working out the hints and picking up the clues for yourself as to what is actually going on I would have appreciated a little more blatancy too. A few more scenes like the 'I love you' one from 'On the Run' would have been very welcome. |

But this is a great example to me of their chemistry. Even without overt dialog, they create a sizzling on-screen dynamic. They're so obviously attracted to each other - and I love their flirting, but OH, to see a few of the fanfiction stories we've written ON AIR!!!!! |

From the Wiki for Iron Ships and Dead Men: Oscar: Jaime, I... I don't know how to ask this... Jaime: Oscar... you don't have to ask me. I would love to help you. Listen, I have my frustrations too, y'know. I mean... I have all these incredible abilities, my bionics, and I never get to use them for anything except the OSI or cleaning the house. And just once, it would make me feel very good if I could help a friend or something like that. Please let me help you. Oscar: Thanks, babe. Jaime: (smiles) Okay, what can we do? Can you get me a job maybe as a salvage worker or something? Oscar: Well I... eh.... I, eh, already have. |

I loved how sheepish Oscar was that he had already gotten her the job. It was a sweet moment for him - he needed her to do it so badly he overstepped, counting on her to forgive him, and he was so vulnerable, so embarrassed, who wouldn't forgive him? |

I think they also know each other so well that he never imagined she wouldn't say 'yes' although he still feels a bit guilty for not asking first. You're right, who wouldn't forgive him! |

THAT'S just another reason Oscar is SOO sexy - he let's himself BE vulnerable. He's SOOO cute too - and you can tell Jaime is just EATING it up. I think he KNEW she'd forgive him - because of how close they are. Still, he's ADORABLE when he's sheepish! |

I just realized that the names Oscar and Jaime are both very difficult to shorten or make nicknames for. Steve comes from Steven of course, and Rudy presumably from Rudolph (poor Rudy)...but you can't really shorten Oscar or Jaime any further. I've wanted to give Oscar a nickname a couple of times in fanfiction, but I could never think of anything derived from his first name. You could call him 'Goldy' like a character on SMDM did, but that doesn't hold much appeal. |

From the Wiki for Angel of Mercy (he called her Pal!): Jaime: It's not the mission - I'll do that. It's the part about being a nurse. Oscar, I can't even put on a bandaid! Oscar: Oh, I don't think there'll be any doctoring, Jaime. Now, here's a uniform. Jaime: Uh-huh, and a first aid manual? Oscar: We'll be arriving at Costa Bravo in about - oh, two hours, and you'll have plenty of time to just... uh... cram. Jaime: Let's hope that the teacher can cram a lot better than her kids. (starts reading the first aid manual) "How to stop arterial bleeding"? Oh, Oscar... I... I... (covers her face) Oscar: (laughs and gives her a hug) You're going to make it, pal. Jaime: You're nuts. --- |

I think that may be the only time he called her 'Pal'. |
