I TALK TOO MUCH! LOL!

From Ghosthunter: Jaime: Where is Essexville, anyway? Oscar: Along the coast of Massachusetts, between Boston and Salem. Jaime: Salem? (cackling like a witch) Maybe I should just gas up my broomstick, huh? |

(*Okay...Jaime wasn't IN this conversation, but she was certainly the topic!) From On the Run: Oscar: (When you put her in the cage) make sure you get her name right - it's not Janey, it's Jaime - Jaime Sommers. Say it. Senator: What? Oscar: SAY IT! Senator: Jaime Sommers. Oscar: Good! And don't you forget it... |

I agree. It was one of his best scenes. If only Jaime could have heard it too. He did so much more to defend her than Chris. |

I like to think she heard about it later and came to her senses. THAT is what someone would do for you that really loved you. |

So true! Yes, I'd hope she'd realize later who was there for her the whole time. |

I love how they make up all these towns - yet they didn't make up Ojai. The names of some of the fake countries crack me up - it's worse than The Three Stooges. |

Yeah, the fake countries are the worst...I can't remember the name of the country in "Winning is Everything" but I do remember that and the race name both made me cringe a bit. |

I think it was like Kaftan or something - an attempt at making it a Muslim "stan" country. Such stereotypes them employed as well. Then there was the one in Jaime and the King... |

I think it was Taftan. Did they name the countries in 'Jaime and the King' and 'Long Live the King'? I can't remember. I wonder why they chose to use the real town of Ojai? It doesn't have any significance except that it's near the air base. They could have made up a fictional town. |

Maybe they didn't name the country and I got confused with their names - I thought they said the king's name and then "of...such and such"... Clearly, it was middle eastern. WHY were they in Monte Carlo then? Did they name the African country in African connection? How about the one with Andy Griffith - wasn't it Costa Bravo or something? |

I think the reason they used the real town of Ojai was because it's a cute town and it's there as a location and there's absolutely no reason to make up something. Why make one up? They use Washington as a location. When they invent Taftan and other countries, they give them stupid kings or political unrest, and I imagine they wouldn't use real countries because they don't want to outright make up lies about real places. I guess they invented Essexville for the same reason. They didn't want anyone in a real town freaking out about something that occurred on a TV show. Does that make sense? |

I understand your point but I think it's just as easy to make up a town. Then it avoids any issues with what is written about it as you say with the countries. Yes, Washington is used but then that is so big and widely known. You really can't avoid using it when talking about government unless you make up some silly place name like 'Metropolis' or something similar. |

They must have felt safe in using Ojai - there were never any stories that involved Ojai as more than a neutral location were there? And I bet Ojai LOVED it. |

Oh, I sort of KNEW that they made up those countries for exactly the reasons you enumerated, it's just that they're so STUPID Really, Washington, Ojai, and Andrews Air Force Base are about the only things they DIDN'T make up. Remember in Jaime's shield - they made up that woman that was to be assassinated? I'm sure Ojai DID love it. I've always wanted to go by there, but we never got a chance when were in LA. My husband didn't seem to see the need to visit
