Why would Oscar spend two hours on the phone when he could have been romancing Jaime? @#$

Yes indeed - silly man! She looks quite disappointed too doesn't she? I love how she grasps his lapels too when she's trying to make her point. They have such intimate body language.

That was so frustrating to watch! Jaime was really looking forward to spending time with him and then he's stuck on the phone and distracted!

It's a sadly vivid demonstration of Oscar's biggest flaw - workaholism!!

I think his biggest flaw is his failure to work up the nerve to tell Jaime how he felt about her.

I think his biggest flaw is his failure to work up the nerve to tell Jaime how he felt about her.

...and he's able to distract himself from that shortcoming by telling himself he has to get back to WORK!

When he lays in bed that night, do you think he's beating his head against the wall saying "stupid chicken?" when he thinks of having been able to spend the night with Jaime? @#$

Its probably a lot easier on him if he doesn't admit to himself he's in love with her. Maybe that's why he's so focused on work - it's that, or tying his stomach in knots when he's with her.

Ten years or so ago I knew a guy that wasn't so different from Oscar. He was type A personality who was extremely dedicated to his job. Long hours and weekends didn't bother him. He was in many ways married to his job like Oscar said Callahan accused him of being. When you could get him away from thinking about work, he was a lot of fun. I imagine Oscar would be much the same.

With the experiences I had with my friend, I could compare notes with Jaime. I was once invited to a weekend in Las Vegas by my friend. Great! Unlike Oscar, at least my friend informed me before hand that he would be working most of the time. Knowing him so well I figured out very quickly that I would be on my own the vast majority of the time. Regretfully, I declined the invitation.

I don't remember if I thought of Jaime's experience in Las Vegas with Oscar at the time but it seems ironically and eerily similiar today.

Ohhh - that DOES sound similar. Now then - do you ever hear a buzzing in your ear like the Fembot hum :) Can you imagine if we REALLY had to do what Jaime did? I could never make it - I'd be panicked out of my MIND.

I'd like to think when they were drinking champagne at the end, it was the end of a LOVELY day together.

So did this guy seem like bad mate material to you? Or did you not think of him that way?

We were great friends for a long time then we became more than "just" friends for awhile. We discussed our relationship and its lack of a future. His work habits were a problem for me and our age difference was a problem for him. Add to that mix was a geographic difference of being across the country from each other that was a problem for both of us and you have a recipe for disaster.

We had our relationship based on the knowledge that it would eventually end. He encouraged me to find a man who could give me a future. A few years later our relationship returned to being platonic friendship - we are still friends although not nearly as close as we used to be.

Happily I found a future with another man and am very happy.

Now that I've re-discovered BW and Jaime/Oscar, I wonder if they would have had a discussion of their relationship and its future, like my friend and I did.

Wow - that is even MORE like Oscar and Jaime - the age difference, geographic difference - the workaholism. I would think Oscar and Jaime WOULD discuss all those issues - and ultimately live with the age difference and fix the geographic distance. She'd have to work pretty hard on the workaholism though huh?

I'm glad you found someone you're happy with.

I TALK TOO MUCH! LOL!

From Once a Thief:

Oscar: What if you continued to go along with him?

Jaime: You want me to become a bank robber?

Oscar: Help him with the robbery - and I'll be there to catch him for his third felony.

Jaime: You want me to set this man up?

Oscar: I can pull some strings, Jaime, and have him sent to Alcatraz.

Jaime: Alcatraz is closed down, Oscar.

Oscar: You're beginning to get the idea, babe.

Now what was the guy stealing that he has Oscar in such an uproar? I can't remember.
