I think that's an excellent point... Making it seem that they have justified their own behavior maybe makes them seem more...real.... I don't think Rudy would be a villian if he had an ethical lapse years ago... nor was Oscar in the LBL when he chose to turn in Natalia...it added tension, in my opinion. I have yet though to see Steve portrayed with any flaws - Rudy either - just hypothesizing about what that is...

I just found this thread during an insomniac browse. Brings up a LOT of interesting thoughts and ideas! I did make an unexpected person evil once - stalking Steve and Jaime and just downright nastiness - but in the end it turns out that he....never mind! You might want to read Cat and Mouse over on fanfic! :D

I love the idea of a flawed Rudy - and maybe even a flawed Steve and Jaime! Could be fun. The wheels, they are a-turning!

At this point, is there really ANYTHING that's been too out there to write - plot wise at least? Sure, the characters might not behave unexpectedly, but is there really a plot device we haven't used because it's just too unbelievable? I gotta say, I always liked the BW shows that were a bit more realistic - not Bigfoot or Sanctuary Earth.

Is there anything taboo from the character's perspectives we can't change?

I think it's just too jarring to make one of our 'core four' truly evil. It's an elephant in the operating room. Flawed, yes - evil, no.

Mmmm.... I think Jaime and Steve are more sacred cows than that. Is it REALLY okay to give Jaime and Steve flaws? Not evil, but flaws. I'm not sure that would fly with everyone here - or would it?

I think if the flaws were extensions of their established personalities, it could work. Nothing too severe, of course. I've thought about writing a good verbal argument scene for them into a story, though...and it was more difficult than I'd expected to get the tone right.

Since we've already seen the semi-flippant, always-right side of Jaime, hints of Steve's chauvinism and Rudy and Oscar's slavish pre-occupation with their careers, why is it so hard to take it one step further?

Mmmm...I'm not sure. I wonder if it would end up with some big "go-around". Are we really ready to look at potential character flaws? REAL flaws? Remember, we just see hints of their personalities -there could be quite some interesting "short comings" if you really want to delve.

I could really see Oscar and Jaime at odds over her independent streak - or Jaime at odds with Steve for the same reason. Hard to picture anyone at odds with Rudy. Can't kill him, either.

Rudy must be the ultimate sacred cow!

But could you see Jaime at odds with Steve over his womanizing? What about his chauvinistic, controlling attitude? Is that too out there to write?

The womanizing...maybe a sharp jab here and there. The chauvinism....definitely. That is something I could definitely see Jaime having a strong reaction to!
