Bionika and Elzorro, you are both SO right about the rituals and the little things hitting especially hard.
That's right.

Not far than today evening when I came home I had to prevent myself to say like I used to do "Hello my cat Syrah, I'm back!".

My son is at his grandmother home. They phoned me; at the end he said goodbye to me and added sadly "I would like to ask you to say goodnight to Syrah but you can't now". When I told him that Syrah was dead he cried a lot and wrote a nice letter to/for her.

When my mother was phoning me she was used to end by "goodnight to you and the children , stokes to Syrah". She told me that she had also to prevent her from saying the words about Syrah now.

And last , I thought that now I could close all the locks of the door as soon as I'm home. Previously, I closed only one in case if Syrah wanted to go outside and closed all of them only before going to bed.

It's terrible for your children !! So sweet from your son to write a letter to Syrah.
Time will heal the pain.
You are in my thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.

The one picture you had posted of Syrah -- is she in the dryer? She looks like she was in the dryer. Makes me wonder why cats are so fascinated with the laundry? :) Perhaps because it's a nice warm spot? Or perhaps it goes in with their fascination of small spaces. She does sort of have a look on her face of "Well, Mom found me. (Sighs) Time to get out of this..." sort of like a kid being caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

Elizabeth, my childhood cat, was part Siamese, so very chatty with a loud meow. Seriously, you could hear her over the phone while she was in the backyard. My dad noted to my mom the day after Elizabeth was put to sleep that it was 'weird that it was so quiet and that she wasn't underfoot when (he) went out into the garage in the morning..." (She was an outdoor cat, slept in the garage because my dad had pet allergies.)

For a long time I missed Guy swiping at my leg to sample my dinner when I was eating. (Learned not to wear shorts at dinner from him...)

Hello Innana

On this picture Syrah wasn't in the dryer (I haven't one), she was in the washing machine.

Since she had been ill in September , she had stange places for sleeping. First it began in the garage, on the deflated rubber boat. Then it have been on a radiator on which I had put a towel for drying it (so I let the towel on the radiator even when it had been completely dry). The time before dying, she was spending lot's of time sleeping in the tub (she sometimes had not enough time or enough strengh to reach her litter and I saw her pee not everywhere in the tub but exactly in the holes for removing water).

The picture has been taken at mid january and at this time she was liking sleeping in the washing machine. I should pay special attention before closing it for washing especially if clothes in it were black. As she like sleeping in it and in order to have her very comfortable, during ythis time, I didn't put clothes to wash in the designed box but immediatley in the washing machine in order ho have Syrah having at any time something smooth to lie on.

Ah. I noticed the few gray hairs on her face and wondered how old she was when the picture was taken.

Spot took to sleep in some unusual places her last few weeks too. We would take the heating pad, fold a towel over it a few times and place it on the edge of our bed so that we could have her nearby if she needed help in the middle of the night the last week. But before that she seemed to have a penchant for sleeping either on the lower shelf of the computer caddy or on the floor between the side of the sofa and the wall. She was having problems with the box too, but if I knew what she was doing, I would help her out and then pick her up and bring her back to her resting place because even walking was taking a lot out of her.

It's a really good picture of Syrah there. You can almost make out what she is looking at in the reflection of her eyes.

Time will heal the pain.
I hope so but but till now there are so much things remembering me Syrah : from when I eat ham or yoghurt and no "miaow" heard to the big empty place in my kitchen cupboard where I stored her food.
My daughter has left a black bag in the bedrooms' doorway. During the night I went to toilets without switch on lights...and for one second I thought that it was Syrah.

I hope that I don't annoy you to much with Surah's stories and habits.

When I asked if I could give in to Syrah's "miaow" when I eat ham, butter, yoghourt, or if tuna everyday isn't bad for her the vet has answered me that she was an old cat and I can could made her comfortable by giving her the food she liked the more except red meat which is really not good for her liver.

So I made Syrah comfortable with food...and every other thing I could do. I even allowed her to sit on table with us - but not licking the butter herself (I cut little bits and place them in front of her on the plastic tablecloth.

Sweet Marie-Noëlle, please share all that you'd like, for as long as you need to. We're one 'bionic family' here. And I think you'll find that while you may be sharing these remembrances through tears now, in time they will also help you to smile.

One of the things I miss most about Bubba is his almost-human level of compassion. When i was too sick to get out of bed, he'd lay next to me with his head against my forehead and his paws 'holding' my hand. And even if he was sound asleep in the other room, if he heard me sitting out here crying, he'd hurry over to jump into my lap, climb up my chest... and wipe my tears away with the gentlest touch you could possibly imagine! Oh, how I missed that gentle paw when my Mom passed 4 days after Bubba did!

Bionika, what a wonderfully understanding vet, to tell you Syrah could have her favorite foods! And what a well-mannered kitty she was, to sit on the table without bothering the butter!

((((hugs!))))
