One of the things I miss most about Bubba is his almost-human level of compassion. When i was too sick to get out of bed, he'd lay next to me with his head against my forehead and his paws 'holding' my hand. And even if he was sound asleep in the other room, if he heard me sitting out here crying, he'd hurry over to jump into my lap, climb up my chest... and wipe my tears away with the gentlest touch you could possibly imagine! Oh, how I missed that gentle paw when my Mom passed 4 days after Bubba did!

How nice was your cat.

And what a well-mannered kitty she was, to sit on the table without bothering the butter!

Well...When she was young, Syrah had tried to stole food but forgot this bad habit when she was a grown-up cat. It came back since her first crisis in August. I thought that she was very hungry because due to her illness, she nearly vomited a few or a wide part of what she had eaten everyday.
The truth was that if you let butter or ham on table alone with Syrah, when you came back you had a great amount of chance to watch her licking the butter and eating the ham. So before she attack our food, I gave her some nuts of butter and ham to eat ans she was also allowed to lick the plates when we had finished our dinner.
My priority was to have her eat and eat something that she would keep in her stomach.

Syrah hasn't reached this level but usually after I went to bed, she went on me for a cuddle before going to sleep herself somewhere else in the house.
The same in the morning she was waking me up (well, this time I thought that it wasn't for cuddles but for asking her breakfast) and I called her fondly : " my little alarm-clock with coat ". I really miss these moments.

This little details and many other makes me still think to her. For instance yesterday I had an empty cardboard...and remember how she loved hid in them (and I usualy kept them for a while).
Also, I still have some "things" belonging to her ( I don't know the word but it's the special thing for sharpening her claws, her now empty litter tray and the shovel) for which I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with (well, except the shovel, the two other are very used) and they are still at their place in the house...Waiting for another cat?

So sweet your memories with your cats Marie-Noëlle and Beth, I've got the same with Darling, when the night is cold when I go to sleep he is curling up close to me and as soon as I cut the light off, he goes to eat and drink and go to sleep on his favorite chair and each morning when I wake up, he is at my side or on my belly, but opposite to you, Marie-Noëlle, my Darling is not really an alarm clock, I am his alarm clock ! ;)

Have you in mind to get another cat in the future, Marie-Noëlle ?

Bionika, my daughter also recently lost her cat. There was never any doubt that she would get another, but I told her not to rush, to take her time and to listen to her heart - and that she'd know when the time was right. She started looking online, at cats in local rescue shelters, saw one she thought she might want and made plans to go with one of her roomies that weekend, to check out that cat and also to look at others. But something held her back and they decided not to go. I told her that when the time was right, Polly (the cat she'd lost) would let her know.

A week later, they finally did go to that shelter. The cat she'd seen online had been adopted. They looked in several rooms, down several hallways, and none of the cats felt 'right'. They were just about to leave and Sara realized there was one more little room off toward the back, that they'd missed. The cats in there had just arrived from North Carolina, where a shelter had been closed down for abuse and neglect, with hundreds of animals confiscated - so many that they were sent to shelters in neighboring states, wherever there was room. And... THERE SHE WAS! Sara was drawn instantly to one of the cages; she had found her cat.

The point being, your heart will know when/if it's time for a new kitty.

Beth, I did not know Sara lost Polly, it should have been terrible for her !! I hope Sami will help her and comfort her in her loss.

Yes, we have.

The children asked (if possible they would like to have each their one...and why not one for me! ). It could be possible because they are 10 and 14 and can take care of their animal. They have already prepared a list of circa 20 cat's name even if I said that you can give a name to a cat only when you see him/her. (It's like if the cat was giving you his name and you chose the one which match the better with him/her).
I know that parent's of one colleague had cats and I already thought to ask him if they still have them.

But not know, we (I) still think too much to Syrah. Moreover it would be easier to have a cat after vacation because we don't have to find somebody for taking care of him/her or have this new animal spending lot's of time in his bag for travelling (During summer I usually go each week-end in Normandy where my mom spend holidays + during my holydays so it means 6x2x3 hours of travel (if there's no traffic jam's!)).

Except if Syrah send us a cat before (I told the children that if I find a cat under the thuja in the garden while cutting them, we keep him/her and call him/her "thuja)! ...

It would be great Marie-Noëlle but you' re right, it would be wiser to wait after your annual holidays to have an other cat !! so he/she get used to you.
But get time to heal !!

OMG... the ingenuity (or should I say the evil genius) of this cat! I saw him preparing to give the back of my hard drive a headbutt, so I told him NO and gently moved him away. Of course, he returned immediately... but this time, he rolled over onto his back (and I swear he GRINNED at me), then he proceeded to KICK at his target with his back feet, instead!

I remember Guy waiting patiently (for him) for me to give him the lid to my yogurt in the morning so that he could clean it.

I really want to get another cat, but then I see my daughter running around, swinging her stuffed cat by the tail over her head (still, would have thought she would have started to grow out of that) and I think, "No, maybe not."
