Yesterday, I have prepared the bag for Scratch : put a towel and some toys in.
I let it under my colleague's desk (he had a day od sales's meeting today while I had a day of HSE meeting!)
Next step : organise how we are going to do on next tuesday. I have a day of vacation and he usually arrive very early at office so I probably go to the plant circa 7:00 for "catching" Scratch before other employees will arrive.

Scratch arrived this morning.
But he is a very shy cat...or may be he is a little traumatized by his change of home.
When he arrived, he was completely frightened and was running everywhere then he hid under the stairs under a baby toy stored there.

At 10:00 I take him for his first appointment to vet. She says that he is healthy . She checked that he is friendly (because he deserve well his name of Scratch, I can't tell that his claws were running well while I was trying to catch him for going to vet) .
She concluded that my colleague had probably not touch him enough and he is still a little "wild" and we will have to do his "socialization".
She advise me to put him in a quiet room and try to touch and pet him the more we can.

When I came back my daughter took his (still in his bag ) on her bed and caress him a little.
Then I put him in my bedroom ... where he spent most of his time under the bed (and some few time under a cupboard)...and my son spent most of his time after school lying down on flooor and petting him. I did the same after lunch...

I'm SO happy to hear that Scratch is HOME! It won't take long for him to get over his shyness. One thing you might try that's very calming for kitties is called 'aura petting'. Run your hand along his body in a petting motion but without actually touching him. Your hand should just barely touch the tips of his fur. It startles them at first but within seconds the cat's whole body (usually) relaxes and they start purring like crazy! My boys still LOVE it, even though they aren't fearful of much anymore!

Hello Bionika,

Just received your card yesterday, sent card back to you this morning, thank you for your sweet gesture !!
I can see Scratch is a little devil, you're right to get him used to get petted if he was not, he just needs to get used to his new home too.
I remember when I brought back Darling home, he remained under my bed for two days and nights and when he began to get hungry, thirsty and needed to do his business, he showed up eventually and made himself at home.
Good Luck with the socializing with Scratch, I am sure it is just a matter of days now !!

Elise :)

Thank for sharing Darling story ; it gives me hope because I have kind of ...lost him in the house.

This morning when I left for work he was under the kitchen cupboards but at noon whem my children looked for him, they didn't find him and the same this evening.
My son has looked everywere, moving lot's of things and we took pictures of places when we can't have a direct look.

I've heard stange noises in kitchen a few minutes ago but wasn't able to find him.

Good evening Bionika,

It would be better if you kept him in one room only for the moment, that he get acquainted with this only room for a few days where he can have his food and litter. As soon as he gets acquainted with this room and quite at home with it, you can let him visit the rest of your home with curiosity, all rooms at once are a little overwhelming for him, let him appreciate them step by step.

Élise :)

Elise has excellent advice. If you keep Scratch in one room for a few days, he can get used to the sounds and smells of his new home gradually, at his own pace - and he can be visited in there, petted and doted upon, as much as you like, to get him used to you and your family. Then after a few days, he won't feel so fearful when he's finally allowed into the rest of the house.

Yes, it's a good advice. the vet said the same thing.
But the problem now is to find him . I've discovered unknown parts of my home (under the roof, unde the bath, over kitchen cupboard) ...but still haven't found him.
I hope that he isn't trapped somewhere.

My daughter and I heard "voices" but we weren't able to find him like this night if he was in the walls.

Well, Scratch is still somewhere in the walls but at least he isn't trapped.

A friend of my mum has adviced me to put some tuna so yesterday evening I put a little plate of tuna under the bath and another under the cupboards in the kitchen.
This morning it looked like the tuna in the kitchen has been licked , it seemed that some croquettes have been eaten too; moreover, and I could see some traces of paws in the liter.
So I did it again this morning and when I came back from work, I checked and HOORAY, all the tuna has been eaten, half of croquettes (I know beacause I weighed them) and there were lots a trace of paws in the liter.

I relieved that he isn't trapped. it would have been too much horrible to hear him meowing and can't find him.
I know now that he is only playing hide and seek with us (but this night , I won't like yesterday and this morning wake at 4h00 or 5h00 in the morning in order to try to find

We'll just have to wait for him to be used to his new house and to us and just appear.

It will happen before you know it! He'll get used to the sounds and smells of his new home - and once he realizes it isn't threatening to him, he'll come out and become a full-fledged member of the family!

There has been some progress today he came to his litter while I was eating in dining room with sound of TV (I heard noise of the rocks, but I was too late for seeing him).
And a few minute ago, while I was at computer (with sound of music) and I could see in the kitchen , he came to eat.

Oh I've thrawn a little ball in the kitchen...and now I can see him playing with it!!

I should say big progress has been done.
