Since some of us here are such LBL addicts, I thought it might be good to have a place to talk about them. Ideas, frustrations, concerns, perhaps seeking out a helping hand when you're a shy writer (Sox..!)...anything on your mind at all - let's hash it out here.

I know it takes me a while to write something for LBL #16, but at least I'm trying. What I'm trying to work on is she's finished the sponge bath and helped him dress and that's as far as I get. Maybe even working on his memory some more and maybe even a confrontation with the nurse. I'm not really good at the romance part.

You are trying and I think that's great! I'm really thrilled you're getting in there. Remember, you don't have to think up the whole story, only little bits of it. Sometimes it's frustrating when you have an idea and someone does something totally different than you expected, but it can also be a lot of fun. It's almost like being a reader and a writer at the same time.

It's true though about the romance part...somehow the sponge bath embarrasses me a little bit! Maybe you can bypass it completely. You don't have to do any details you don't feel like doing!

A wise friend once told me that what is implied is better than what you see. And it's true. I love to write the juicy parts but sometimes just knowing they are happening without you describing them is much better! I liked what you did to #16 Sox, I thought it was great. Believe it or not, I used to be shy about writing, but just enjoy it and remember it's for fun!

I find it very difficult to write the romantic parts (although I love them!). What you've said is very true. What's left to the imagination is far better than having it all written out. My imagination for the romance is great but to put it into words--it's next to impossible.

Are we talking romance, or sex, or both?

I would have to say a little of both. I have to agree that what is left to the imagination is far better than being written out.

Yeah...especially with sex. You need just exactly the right amount of information, and after that it really loses out, and becomes kind of ...hmmm... Dull? Gross? Mechanical?

It's easier to write romance, I think, though it can get corny pretty easily.

The thing I liked most about the LBL's from the beginning was that the pressure was off to some extent when it came to writing. I had ideas, but didn't know how to coherently string them together. The LBL helped me break out of my writing shell because others were so great at chipping in and encouraging me.

The hardest part I have IS writing the romance/sex scenes. I found it, and still do a bit, embarrassing to write. However, I LOVE reading them if they aren't overly explicit, so I didn't want to be a hypocrite and tried it.

That said, the second hardest part for me is knowing where to draw the line when I write those parts. What is offensive to some might be tame to others. Some like missions, some like romance. I would hate to think my writing offended anyone it is explicit details.

Case in point - the sponge bath for Steve. I personally put that in there just to see where someone else might take it... I'm glad so far it hasn't progressed any further than it has, but I thought some Steve fans out there might like to take a shot at it.

For me it's the missions that strain my brain. I don't find them that interesting (partly because I never think up clever mission "devices") and I feel like I'm hamstrung by my own ignorance. But it's ALWAYS dangerous, and somebody ALWAYS might die and they never do, of course!

I guess it depends on what you mean my difficult. It is more difficult for me to come UP with mission ideas. They all seem so contrived, and I am not an expert in bio-chemical, nuclear or viral warfare, nor do I really know much about the political innerworkings of the KGB.

It's still harder for me though to BRING myself to write the romance stuff. It's hard without knowing where the "line" is before you make a story an "M", and even then, is that kind of story even wanted?

I agree it's such a challenge to come up with ideas and then have the knowledge to make it realisitic. How do you add things about military projects, weapons systems, space technology, chemicals, terrorist/spy networks, international relations or even locations when you have no experience of it yourself? Then there's always the medical terms--another challenge. I really admire how much research must be required to write for TV and films.

Sometimes I find it hard when nothing it really happening - it;s funny when you read 4 or 5 posts in a row, and it is SO obvious that no one wants to make the move to get them out of whatever they are in, hoping someone else does it - I am probably one of the WORST offenders...

I also find it hard if I am trying to be sensitive and guess where someone else may want the story to go. Yes, it's fun to throw a monkey wrench in there sometimes, but if I can help advance the plot for someone else, that's nice too.

Yes, isn't it so hard when you come to a point in the story that needs something completely new added but the last one to post gives you no clue as to what they had intended? It's a great opportunity to be creative but I too hesitate because I don't want to ruin someone else's idea or take the story some direction that doesn't make sense.

I thought I was the worst offender!
