You should start a LBL sox - it's loads of fun... What would you like to see "happen"??? It's great because you can start with several lines to get it going in the direction you want. |

Writing is darn hard. Especially off the cuff writing like the LBL but at the same time I think it's my favorite. It doesn't have time to sit and I don't have to stew over it, what happens happens and it's done. I'm a great one at over analyzing what I write. I try not to do that. For regular writing I try to see if the scene will play out in my head. If it will, then I attempt to write it. If I don't like it, I read over it , tweaking and what not until I do like it. If I don't ever like it, I send it to someone and say is this any good or is it just me? If they like it, I will usually keep it. If not, I get rid of it and start again. Sometimes even if they do. But I've only started like three stories that I couldn't do SOMETHING with. I try not to over explain and I try to not burden with details. I love details, and that's very hard for me not to do. I often write and have no idea what will happen. A friend of mine who always has her stories outlined word by word says she doesn't understand how I can write that way. I don't know, I just do. I very rarely know how a story will end, I just keep at it, until the characters tell me. One of my favorite movies is Alex and Emma, because I write like he does. It can get maddening but it's just who I am I guess. I also work on more than one story at a time. I get bored if I spend all my time on the same one. I like to work in different fandoms, it keeps me fresh. But I don't recommended that, it also can get confusing! The best thing I've learned about writing is make sure it's fun. If it's not, then don't do it. Write for yourself and then others. Messyhead, you give me hope when you say you don't like most of what you write, because you are near perfection and that means that maybe not all of mine is bad!

Well, you REALLY are too kind...but thank you. I think writing is plain hard work. The story I'm writing at the moment often seems to be a big gangly jumble of bad sentences and poorly articulated ideas. Sometimes I'll read a paragraph over and absolutely despair. The beautiful thing is when you come back to it later and sort it out easily. I think it's really important to let your subconscious (or unconscious...can't remember which it is) work away at it while you're doing the dishes. I don't know if our fine members here have read your Ghost and Mrs. Muir stories, but they ought to, because you've written some lovely stuff, Melchycat. I think I've told you this already, but you have a real talent for catching the character's voice. - their speech patterns, their era and their temperament. When I read it, I hear the characters very clearly. |

I didn't realize, melchycat, that you had stories on fanfiction - I'll have to go check them out. However, it sounds like both you and messyhead have this writing thing down pat. I have no problem thinking of the scenes I want... I can imagine how they go. But I struggle when I have to put them together. I am writing one that has let's say, 6 big scenes. However, if I "jump" from one scene to another, there would have to be PAGES of narration to elaborate on what happened from point A to point B, OR I add "mini scenes", but there are then more than a dozen of them, and still I need to use narration. I don't know if I am just making mine too complex, or if I am too verbose and should just indeed jump from A to B. I too write from an outline, but it is REALLY rough and I change it frequently. I too usually have more than one going at a time. Problem is, I never seem to FINISH anything. |

I've got roughly, 25 Ghost and Mrs. Muir's unfinished, three Princess Diaries, three or four SMK, two Daniel Boones and now two BW's. I'm bad and not finishing. I usually don't unless someone says, hey what ever happened to that story and then I'll be like oh yeah. And still I've manged to get 70 of various types on ff.net. I'm not sure how! Everyone has their own writing style so it's hard to say. But it sounds as though if you merely jumped from A to B you would be fine. But sometimes you need that extra. I'm not an expert. But if you want to send me one of your tales, I look over it and tell you what I see. Messyhead does have the writing thing down! |

I just read the last few entries for LBL #16 and I must I like it. All of you do a great job with the characters. You all have these characters down pat that it is almost like watching them on televison. Now that I have my busiest week at work behind me I will try to get something for LBL #16 this weekend. |

just a note...as I did with a previous line by line I'm going to use A HAUNTING WE WILL GO" as a spring board for another story idea I have for the seaason. I hope you will all like it. I hope to have it finished by Halloween. I had my own idea as to where I wanted it to go. So I"m going to go from there. I hope you all don't mind. I will continue to contribute to the lone by line. My version is much different.... I actually have a coupleof more I'm putting up They were on another board at one time. I revamped them for here. |
