How does someone become a Steve/Jaime fan versus an Oscar/Jaime fan? I have a theory: could it be the books? The Steve and Jaime romance was played up big-time in the novels, where it was sort of glossed over in the series. I am thinking that the S/J fans read the novels and the O/J fans did not. Am I right....? |

I can't say whether your theory is right or wrong. I can only say from my experience that I read the novels and watched the series both when they originally were released and I'm an O/J fan. With me I started watching the Bionic Woman when it started as its own series and Steve wasn't in that many of the episodes. I got to see Jaime with Oscar more and thought they were so great together. Later when I did see the episodes of SMDM where Jaime and the romance with Steve was introduced I still didn't change my mind about being a O/J fan though. |

I don't think that could be it. For me it's strictly based on the chemistry between Oscar and Jaime (which is really between Richard and Lindsay) and also the fact that I find Richard really attractive. (What a news bulletin that is!) Lee Majors...not so much. I'm not charmed by Lee/Lindsay Steve/Jaime as a pair. I just don't get it. I've wondered if S/J shippers would classify themselves as "suckers for a good romance? (And I don't mean that in ANY way as derogatory). Steve and Jaime have to overcome some pretty incredible impediments to their romance, and if you're a big fan of romance in general, maybe it gets to you...? Personally, most romance stories don't do a thing for me, and I'm not drawn in by the Steve and Jaime 'story' in particular, so the novels wouldn't have done it for me either. Good question B4E. |

That's very true it's all about the chemistry between Richard and Lindsay. I'm a real romantic and usually any romantic story like that gets me hooked but I just never felt anything with the Steve and Jaime story (or between Lindsay and Lee). Like you said, Messyhead, I don't get it either. I did feel something real between Jaime and Oscar though. Even though it was only hinted at, it was much deeper and stronger for me than anything between Jaime and Steve. |

I watched the shows when I was young back in the 70's, and then not again much at all until a year and a half ago. I read some fanfiction with Oscar/Jaime stories, and then rewatched the episodes, and I was HOOKED. It was so instantaneous - maybe just as an adult seeing their relationship through more mature eyes, but I found it very sexy without being overtly sexual. The chemistry between them was great - all the little nuances, glances, touches, embraces. Of course it doesn't hurt that I find Oscar VERY attractive - and not just in looks - in the way his character IS. |

For me too. I instantly liked the character and was much more attracted to Oscar than Steve. I can't remember the novels being that much different than the episodes. There was a lot more background information but I don't recall the romance being much different. I'll have to go back and read those parts again. If anything I thought the relationship between Oscar and Jaime was given more attention. For example in the tennis court scene Jaime hugs Oscar after he agrees to let her work for him which didn't happen in the episode. Perhaps each person reads what they prefer from the stories. |

I never realized the books were that detailed! I hope I haven't been missing any good parts between Oscar and Jaime!! |

There's nothing much different from the episodes just a few more details. Like it's mentioned Oscar came to see her often to check on her progress in Colorado and that's how they got to know each other. That better explains how they are so much closer in 'Welcome Home Jaime' than in 'Return of the BW'. It's little things like that which add to the stories. |

And just what happened during that time period? Maybe THAT would explain the affectionate greeting they give each other

It had to be something significant because their relationship is so different. They went from hardly saying a word to each other to clearly enjoying being together and comfortable with showing each other affection. |

How many of these novels were there? And at what point did that quote take place, B4E? Or is that too hard a question after too long a time? |

When were the novels written - before or after the TV episodes? How faithful were they to the show? Where are the missing novels where Jaime falls in love with Oscar?

There were only two for Bionic Woman. Welcome Home Jaime (aka Double Identity) which covers 'Welcome Home Jaime' with bits of 'Bionic Woman' and 'Return of the Bionic Woman' to give the background to the story of how she became bionic and what happened afterwards. Extracurricular Activites(aka Question of Life ) covers 'Claws' and 'Canyon of Death'. There were about 6 novels for the SMDM. |
