When were the novels written - before or after the TV episodes? How faithful were they to the show? Where are the missing novels where Jaime falls in love with Oscar? c8654  c8654

They seem to be written after the episodes and do follow them almost exactly. There's just more background information and Jaime seems more affectionate. She seems to give Oscar a hug and kiss more. :) In 'Welcome Home, Jaime' ,when they are discussing in the classroom how she could help with Carlton Harris she sees how reluctant Oscar is to have her get involved so she gives him a hug and kiss. There are also some extra scenes such as she tells Michael when she meets him when she's out running and he goes to kiss her that she's not ready to make commitments with anyone until she has time to deal with everything that's happened, she talks to Oscar about her memory loss and the pain. Just little parts that fill in the stories.

I like the extra hugs and kisses part :) Now why can't they take any of our fanfiction and use THAT as a base for some new books :)

I agree they would make great books! :)

I wanted to make a book once, and wrote to Kenny Johnson about publishing rights. Sadly, they are tied up between the studio and the distribution company and may never be available. (Same reason we have no dvds.) Very weird and sad that Kenny created the character and has no say as to publishing/distribution rights!

Do you know more of the details of the dispute?

I'm sorry - didn't see this question before now. One thing I understand about these disputes is that no one can agree who is entitled to the larger share of profits - the studio, network or distribution company. According to Kenny, this dispute is long-standing, still going on...and he didn't sound very hopeful for there being a resolution.

How many of these novels were there? And at what point did that quote take place, B4E? Or is that too hard a question after too long a time?

Forgive me for answering a year-old question now, but I must have completely missed it earlier. (I don't think I was fully back online yet at the time.)

The book (Welcome Home Jaime) began on the tennis court, when Jaime's bionic rejection went into full swing. When she is hospitalized and Rudy begins to treat her, the dialogue is fairly identical to the script, but by page 5, the book begins to delve into Steve and Jaime's histories, as a sort of background for what is taking place now. Then once the background is filled in (exactly as Kenny J had originally plotted his 'doomed love story'), it continues and faithfully follows the episode and its dialogue to the end.

There were two other BW novels that I'm aware of, and about half a dozen SMDM/Cyborg.

Even though this is a very old question, I'll put in my 2 cents. I loved the SMDM from the very beginning. I developed a crush for Oscar/Richard but I always liked Steve. I enjoyed the introduction of Jaime and believed the love story between Steve and Jaime.

When the BW started it didn't take me long to see the chemistry between Jaime and Oscar. I really wanted them to be a couple. They certainly sent off more sparks than Jaime and Steve. I remember being very disappointed when Jaime went off with another guy. I thought she needed Rudy to check for a loose screw.

As Jaime developed, I didn't think she and Steve were right for each other any more. I've never watched the 3rd reunion movie because I just couldn't get into Jaime and Steve getting back together. The storyline didn't work for me. Maybe if the writers had been more creative, I could have bought it but not the way it was written.

Realistically, I can understand why the Oscar/Jaime romance didn't happen. The show was about bionics, just an action/adventure show. They probably wanted to keep the illusion of there being a possibility of a relationship between their lead characters, Jaime and Steve. Plus let's face it, in the women's lib mid-70's they couldn't have Jaime romancing her older boss.

I read the novels but I don't remember much romance in them.

There really wasn't a lot of romance in the second two books. The first one (Welcome Home Jaime) just struck the right chord in 13-year-old me....and it stayed with me, I guess. It wasn't until I was older and saw the wonderful stories on fanfic that I noticed there were indeed sparks between Jaime and Oscar. :)

I am really new here, but it looks like people have commonly perceived J/O relationship. I guess I was blind to that sort of idea, all those years ago. I never saw anything in their relationship that would indicate any kind of attraction. I guess"It" never crossed my mind that Jaime Sommers would ever look at her boss in that sort of way. I guess I was strongly wishfully thinking that her love for Steve Austin would eventually override any other situation she had going on. And Oscar, to me, seemed like an older gentleman. Like an uncle or something. I can conceive in an Alternative Universe sense that they could get together, but I thought for sure, that he would have to be "hands off'; after all, Steve Austin was his friend, too. And I thought his chivalrous loyalty to Steve and Jaime's past would keep him from "going there". And in my young mind (and now in my older one), Steve was way Handsome and Hunky. I can entertain that Oscar had some awesome smart qualities and had a groove that was kinda suave, but Jaime was just way too young. On the other hand, Steve was not very evolved and didn't seem to want to be evolved. Hard for a very hunky man to accept the resourceful and strong lady Jaime was becoming. Still I thought that love overcomes all.

I really like how you think! Although I will admit that now I can see intriguing possibilities for Oscar and Jaime (and have written some stories along that vein), it never crossed my mind back in the day. (Did I really just say 'back in the day'?) Still, even now I prefer to entertain the idea that true love conquers all difficulties - and Steve and Jaime's rich history wins out for me.

I wrote to Kenny J. one more time after the dvds came out, to ask again about publishing rights. (The story I'd like to publish is Legacy.) But although he'd always written back promptly in the past, this e-mail went unanswered. Maybe he can't legally tell me where to go to get the rights or perhaps he was tied up with a new series and a new book...

I think people who followed Jaime's original story arc on TSMDM, are more likely to be Steve/Jaime shippers than fans who didn't discover Jaime til her own show. Of course, this is just one theory and certainly not true in all cases.

Now about these books. So Welcome Home, Jaime is the one that talks about Steve and Jaime's relationship? Does anybody know what The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman book written by Joel H. Cohen is about?
