Actually, I didn't know that there were more novels than just "Cyborg" until I started lurking here.

Of the two ships, I would say I favor Oscar and Jaime over Steve and Jaime. I think as far as the shows go, the shipping of Steve and Jaime is pretty obvious. Rewatching Bionic Woman, it's pretty obvious that Oscar fell in love with Jaime. Jaime's feelings toward him were a bit more fuzzy, IMO, definitely skirting the platonic/romantic line, definitely a more subtle trope of "Are they or aren't they?" than Steve and Jaime.

Of course, as far as fanfiction goes, I can pretty much count on one finger the number of times that I've picked the most popular or prolific ship in a fandom. In this case, I prefer Oscar, but I actually am open to Oscar and anyone, Oscar and Jaime, Oscar and Original Character, heck even Oscar and Callahan, just as long as he has someone to go home to at night. It always broke my heart that Oscar never had anyone waiting at home for him. Plus, I also find Richard Anderson very attractive (I'll freely admit that it's a rare occasion that lanky, tall, dark, and handsome guys don't make me drool! LOL). Lee Majors, on the other hand, not really. But then again, there are at least a couple of mannerisms that he has that remind me distinctly of my brothers, particularly my younger one. If that isn't an instant buzzkill for finding a guy attractive, I'm not sure what is. I could read a romance about Steve and Jaime, but I don't think I would enjoy it nearly as much as a romance between Jaime and Oscar.

I've thought about writing an Oscar/Callahan story; it might be an interesting angle to explore!

I'm pretty sure I saw those two as a couple by the way of my mom. She concluded it was the most logical for them to be a couple if Oscar was going to have someone to go home to because they spent the most amount of time together, far more than Jaime and Oscar. I have a feeling perhaps my mom said this because she was a Steve and Jaime shipper. I don't ever remember asking her about Steve and Jaime, but I do recall asking her about who would be waiting for Oscar at home and she said something along the lines of "Oh, that would be Callahan." It was during the Kill Oscar arc. Could also be that she figured that being kidnapped together would likely bring the two of them closer together. Kind of hard to remember conversations from that long ago, especially since I was a kid. There have been conversations, situations, etc that happened when I was a kid that my parents and I remember very differently LOL.

Well Callahan did seem pretty upset in KO thinking that Oscar didn't appreciate her. Maybe she did have a thing for him.

I don't know, I saw her Kill Oscar beef with Callahan in the underappreciated wife part, similar to Jaime Lee Curtis' role when she says to Schwarzenegger's character at the beginning of the movie True Lies "I slept with the plumber to get (whatever plumbing job) fixed." And Schwarzenegger really isn't even paying attention when he says "Oh, good, did he give you a discount?" When Oscar and Callahan were captured and would look at one another when bad stuff was happening I thought would be a good basis of something developing. Almost dying with someone I would think make two people grow closer together, but that probably isn't always the case.

I've thought about writing a story that pairs them, or has them exploring the possibility...

Saying what makes someone like one couple more than another couple is I think based on many intangibles, like saying what makes someone like one person over another or one food over another. Chemistry seems to be a matter of opinion. In my opinion Lee and Lindsay have plenty of chemistry. Jaime always seems to perk up when she hears Steve is in town with her, and the way she looked at him in Kill Oscar 2... I also like how Steve lit up when he saw Jaime in the restaurant after nearly 10 years. Do Lindsay and Richard have good chemistry, yes, so do Lindsay and Martha Scott, so do Lindsay and Ford Rainey, so do Lindsay and Jennifer Darling, so do Lee Majors and Richard, but I don't see anything romantic or sexual about those relationships. Jaime and Oscar have a great relationship and a great connection, but I don't see it as romantic or sexual. Actually I think one of the things I like about both shows is that Jaime, Steve, Oscar and Rudy are like family. I can say it's not because of the books that I like Steve and Jaime together because I never read them. I am not saying none or few of the O/J shippers saw the BW or ROBW episodes of SMDM, however I can see a greater possibility of being an O/J shipper if they didn't see the character of Jaime before BW was it's own show because there was little interaction between Steve and Jaime (especially compared to her time with Oscar). Again, I'm not saying that's the only way to be an O/J shipper. I do see that the way Richard sometimes looks at Lindsay that Oscar may indeed be in love with Jaime, however I don't see those feelings being returned by Jaime. I think she sees Oscar as her boss/mentor, big brother/father figure and a trusted and dear friend, but I don't see her having romantic/sexual feelings for him.

That being said, I remember seeing the 7 million dollar man as a little girl and being happy Steve had someone to be bionic with. Then when Jaime became bionic I was very happy for him. I remember how heartbroken he was at the end of the BW episode and then at the end of ROBW when she drove off with Michael, I was so sad for Steve. So if I had to put my finger on it, I would have to say I became hooked on the Steve and Jaime relationship because of the story and because of their chemistry. I think Beth said she is a sucker for a good love story, I guess I am too, but I think it's their chemistry too.

Anyway, that's just my humble opinion. I do feel bad for Oscar, Rudy and Callahan because they don't have anyone d4w y5u

Very well said. That's the way I see Steve and Jaime too, and the other characters too.

Also have to give kudos to Richard Anderson and Lindsay, who decided between them to play with a spark between their characters, even if the writers refused to make it a story. There a lovely spot in the blooper reel where Ra (as Oscar) is on the phone, and he says "I can handle Jaime. I'm in love with her. Now if the writers would only write to show that." And at the end of S & J's wedding, the looks that crossed Oscar's face before he finally applauded were a masterstroke! I have no doubt that RA put that in himself - and performed it perfectly. We could see Oscar's realization that Jaime was permanently 'taken', regret that he'd never acted on his own feelings... and then finally happiness for two of his closest friends. RA was brilliant in that scene without needing to speak a single word!

I'll have to take a closer look at Richard's face the next time I watch it Beth. Thanks for pointing it out. 432q18

I completely agree.

I will second that. Yet it was Oscar who put the ball in motion by playing cupid in the first reunion movie, maybe he was being as selfless as Steve when he let Jaime go with Michael. Or maybe he decided to do that when he saw Steve still loved and longed for Jaime after all those years and felt guilty for putting them on so many missions apart. (Think about it, after the Carlton Harris incident, Oscar never actually sent them on a mission together on screen, in Return of Bigfoot Jaime and Steve just happened to be testing their bionics for Rudy together when Jaime was defending Steve and then had to find the aliens and the serum to save Steve's life and in Kill Oscar they were in DC for testing again at the same time when they teamed up on their own to rescue Oscar.) I think Oscar did that because he wanted Jaime for himself and later felt guilty, LOL.

Anyway, it was both well played by Richard and selfless of Oscar to put both his friends' happiness above his own. yuh
