She certainly didn't ask Steve's permission when Oscar came to give her that very first assignment - she told Steve in no uncertain terms that he could NOT speak for her. That's our Jaime! :D

Im talking about FANFICTION. I know in the show she wouldn't let Steve lead her around by the nose :)

Actually she doesn't wait for permission in fanfic either. If I think about b4e's stories, Steve is there to catch her when she falls. He doesn't tell her what to do, though he is often the cooler head.

Jaime is younger, less experienced and has had the whole Intelligence world sort of dumped into her lap, where Steve entered it more knowingly (if not altogether willingly).

I think you have to admire Jaime - how many 26 year olds could handle what's been thrown at her? It takes a certain amount of courage to start life anew as she did. True, it's better than being an invalid, but that doesn't mean it's any less courageous.

Oscar did offer her an 'out' very early on, and she insisted she wanted to work for him. Very courageous.

And I think that endeared her to him all the more.

Bumping up this great discussion. Does anyone else have any writing crutches - or plots/phrases/gimmicks you find yourself falling back on a little too often?

What about run on sentences? Does anyone have trouble with them?

You know, I have given this subject a whole lot of careful consideration and after way too much time spent thinking about it, I have come to the conclusion that no one here would ever have trouble with run-on sentences because we all just write long enough to say whatever it is we need to say and then we get off the page - I mean it would be wasteful to just keep on typing with nothing much to say just for the fun of typing or because you simply cannot sleep and the cat doesn't want to play because he was sensible and fell asleep hours ago which means he will be waking me at the crack of dawn whether I am ready to get up or not but it is a noble and wonderful thing to be owned by a cat and so I shouldn't gripe because he really has me well-trained to where I will get up and start drinking coffee and he will receive his morning cuddle and go back to sleep which is about all he does except when I am sleeping and then of course - cowabunga - it is wide-awake time and gung ho - hold onto your horses because Bubba is playing Psycho Kitty all over the bed and he doesn't care if I've only been asleep a couple of hours either....he will just poke and yowl and lick and nuzzle until I roll over and get up, groaning all the way because I stayed up too late playing on Facebook but couldn't have fallen asleep until after 2am in any case because 1am is the Batting Hour and my mind will not allow sleep during what it still perceives to be a most dangerous time since both bats appeared with minutes of 1am - and yes, I know they could come any time after dark but for me 1am is the Batting Hour and that will be difficult to erase but what I really wonder most of all is if anyone is still reading this single sentence and I am guessing that anyone who started reading gave up a long time ago because this is an exercise in frustration if you are really trying to follow what I am saying - you know what I mean?

bumping for the fun of it!

I wonder if...it would be possible...to write an entire chapter...without using "..."?

A chapter without '...' or '-' is...well - unthinkable. Tried - can't do it. Maybe...someday.
