What are some of your toughest challenges when writing? I am having a lot of trouble writing an angst-free story!

That's it right there..for me too. Working on my prologue to my opening story that will take place three months after the Austin's baby girl is born. ..(Also hope you don't mind but I have Jaime still being alive)

She will most likely survive her pregnancy in my season one story, too. :)

My biggest challenge is not covering ground I've already covered. I don't like having the same plot, but it's hard not to repeat too much. Also, I find it hard not to make mine sappy and making Jaime strong enough to reflect her real character on the show.

It is really really hard to keep a conflict/angst-free story interesting...even if I know where i want it to end up!

I find it's hard just to not reuse some phrases - within the same story, let alone from story to story. Mainly because I have most (okay all) of my stories as getting together stories, so I seem to need to use the same words. I worry it bores my audience.

I also find it's hard to get the balance right between narration and dialog. I think either is fine, it's balancing it for me that's tricky - and to not use phrases like "he said", "he asked', "she noted" etc...

Ooh - I've got it! Writer's block cured! Okay...so it's conflict...and maybe a little angst, but the story shall stay alive!

Isn't conflict essential for a story? Conflict can be something as small as looking for a lost button or something as big as Jaime trying to stop some bad person from blowing up the world - but you've gotta have conflict, otherwise there's no story! And as for angst - it so often goes with conflict (it's part of the deal, really) it's hard to avoid. I know what you mean though - I get sick of everyone being upset all the time!

I found out just how essential it is when I tried to write a story that was strictly romance with no conflict or angst. Couldn't even hold my own interest! So....I had to add a minor little, teeny-tiny bit of angst - like Steve getting shot!

Now that's a subtle bit of angst!

Yeah, a romantic thing with no angst is liable to make you completely nauseous and very sleepy.

The fact that Jaime is 25 weeks pregnant when her husband is shot...not angsty in the least! :D

Don't you find all that angst feeds right into the overuse thread? That's what gets me. "Tears pearled in the corners of her eyes." "He frowned deeply." Blech. Over and over again - and yet it's hard to avoid it!

Oh, most definitely. But after awhile, so does non-angst. 'She gazed deeply into his eyes'...'He kissed her softly'.... fdx

At least angst is more FUN! :D

Well, since one usually follows the other, yes, they both get tiresome! Non angst can be fun too... ;)
