I don't think WE can rewrite the canon - only deviate from it. The canon is what it is, and I don't think any of us stick to it - which IS more fun. Presumptuous or not, I don't think we can DO it.

Some of the Steve & Jaime stories stick pretty closely to canon. Most of mine...um...don't.

Well, that depends on when the Steve and Jaime stories were written. If they were when they were 40 and together, yes. Otherwise, if Jaime is in her 20's or 30's, then she couldn't BE with Steve because she wasn't in BW. I haven't read any purely mission stories on fanfiction between them, but I suppose if there are some, then yes, I think they'd stick pretty close to canon.

I think I've got a couple of mission stories where they weren't together. *Beth jumps for joy*
At least once or twice out of 135, I stuck to the canon - LOL!

Which two are they? I personally have NONE, as she is with Oscar in ALL of them.

And that's one of the things that makes your stories so enjoyable! :)

Why thank you! :) :) At least I do try to keep their BEHAVIOR the same as in the series - except for the fact that of course we don't actually SEE them together. Jaime is strong and independent and Oscar likes her that way. She's got him slightly twisted around his little finger.

I don't even mind the more minor characters as much - you have to change that sometimes to make it interesting, and I'd rather see Michael as a villain than some other guy we've never seen. However, I DO try to make the MAIN characters behavior the same - especially Jaime. If she isn't strong and independent, it kinda takes away from most of my stories. That's why I like her with Oscar - I think he complements her in that way.

I guess writing a new Season One is sort of like re-writing the canon - which is awfully presumptuous.... fctre
Also a lot of fun! :D

You CAN'T rewrite the canon, Beth - if you could then it wouldn't be the canon! ;)

You're just down here with all the rest of us delusional types trying to wrestle the story so it goes like you want it to!

I never claimed to be anywhere but 'down here'. In fact, was earlier hiding my face in shame for straying so far from the canon. I was merely admitting that it was awfully presumptuous to be re-writing the first season (which established the original canon). I'm sorry you read my remark to mean something else.

Actually, I'm sorry. I didn't put that at ALL well. What I was trying to say is that "re-writing" the canon is not possible, because the canon is written in stone. That's the nature of the beast. (I know you know that.) All you can do is diverge from the canon. In fact, I would argue that every fan fiction diverges from the canon, because it is a riff on the original, and not the original itself - if that makes any sense.

Anyway, sorry if that sounded snotty. :(

That's true! It doesn't matter so much if minor characters are changed because we don't really know them that well anyway. It's possible it's a side to them we just haven't seen yet. It's different with the main characters though. If they act in a way that seems 'out of character' then it's really distracting because you can't get past that 'They would never do that!' feeling.
