Well..it seems to me that canon has them liking each other, but they aren't a couple, they aren't exclusive, and I kinda doubt they are in love - else how do you explain them dating so many other people?

To be fair, she isn't in love with Oscar either in canon.

Then you have to look at their personalities. Jaime seems pretty independent and strong willed - but not petulant or particularly disobedient. I don't think she needs a man to do things for her or for emotional support. She likes men and likes dating, but doesn't seem to NEED one.

Steve is honest, loyal, trustworthy and strong willed. He seems to be an old fashioned kinda guy that isn't into women's lib - which is why I've always wondered if he and Jaime would really make a good couple.

I'm sure you see it differently B4E - how do YOU see it? c8654 c8654

Well, I pretty much agree with you. I see Steve and Jaime (in canon) as not really a couple but definitely testing the water and seeing what might still be between them. They are also dating others because Jaime isn't sure exactly what or who she wants and Steve....well, he's a man and he's not dead - lol! However, like Oscar said in Bionic Beauty, Steve's not serious about any of these other women because his heart really does still belong to Jaime.

But that was early on - not three years into it. His HEART may have belonged to Jaime....well... we won't get into the rest of that statement :)

I just think they grew apart and were more like old lovers - someone you heave feelings for - but old feelings - nice to remember feelings - not current feelings of love and attachment.

I guess I do have to include Chris in any thoughts of canon - and Jaime did say she loved him....damn that network switch!

But if I wanted to write an in-canon story, it could take place during first or second season of the actual show's timeline...

Or...maybe a story about Jaime and Chris in Budapest could be interesting. Maybe...I need more coffee.

Oohh..Jaime and Chris in Budapest - that COULD be interesting!

I think an in-canon story in season 1 or 2 still doesn't have Jaime and Steve as a couple though. She likes him, but no more than a whole host of other men - I think she just feels close to him because she has been told she WAS - not because she has real feelings for him - she doesn't. I think she wishes she did, but she doesn't. I think it's just as plausible she's with Oscar as Steve.

A story set in season 1 or 2 (and in canon) really couldn't have her with Steve or Oscar. Maybe that's why that idea is set aside (for me)...for now. Going to go with the other idea...I think.

Pass the coffee, please!

She does show an interest in Steve - asks Oscar how he's doing and seems happy when he turns up, but it's definitely sort of...distant.

Oh, I agree she shows an interest in him, but more like an obligation or something - like you would with any old friend.

Would it be interesting....? Because I started it, posted a chapter - and decided to pull it, at least for now. It seems so grim, and we all know exactly where it leads.

But it could look at Jaime's emotions she feels towards Steve - why did he abandon her and Chris in their time of need? The anguish she went through...

I thought I started to read it and was getting into it and like that.."bang" it was gone. I have to say based on the kissing scene in Kill Oscar and others..that Steve and Jaime were ment to be with each other...as lovers and married. Seems clear from the episodes and the goo goo eyes and touches etc.

But since this story is set right before the first reunion movie (and I was trying to stick to canon), Steve can't rush to her bedside - no matter how badly I'd like to put him there.

Exactly - That's why it's no fun sticking to canon. I still think it could be interesting to explore Jaime's darker emotions during that time though.
