Yeah, I think it's possible they would go on a date - though I suspect if they called it 'a date' it would be in a non-serious, jokey way.

True. If it was an official date I think we'd have to see more of them together - sticking with canon of course. But I could see them kissing :)

But once they started - how could they possibly stop?

The only way I could see it is if they each told themselves they were just friends - good friends. Or that they weren't serious. She seemed to stop with the other men she'd met. I guess with Oscar it would be harder because she would KEEP seeing him. COULD they stop though?

Hey SW&D, where in Fembots in Las Vegas did Oscar say he had a "hot date" with Jaime? It must have been cut out of the version I saw.

For me canon is so difficult because the tv show didn't stick to "canon" either. The movies certainly didn't. In many ways I discount the movies as being a part of canon because even the characters are not faithful to either series.

We have to remember that the 70's were pretty open about sex and multiple partners. I see it as possible that Jaime and Oscar had an affair, not on a wife but on the OSI. Maybe they discussed their relationship. As director of the OSI, Oscar felt he couldn't marry. Maybe Jaime wasn't ready to settle down in a serious relationship. I see them as good friends who enjoyed each other when they had the opportunity but they knew it wouldn't go any further. This left Jaime open to explore other opportunities with Oscar's blessings, although I think it would have been difficult for him as he was in love with her. When Jaime finally picked Chris at the end of "On The Run", she and Oscar went back to being "just" friends.

My own feeling is to stay faithful to the characters - at least the TV show writers did that - but the stories are fair game.

I believe Oscar said "hot date" - that's what it sounds like anyway.

He had been trying to get with Rod. He says to Jaime, "I don't think he'll see me".
Jaime grabs his coat and replies that they don't have to see the show. He says "Jaime I promised you a hot date and I always keep my promises." He then puts his arm around her and off they walk.

I really liked your opinions on Oscar and Jaime's relationship - and I think that's a very good explanation of what it was like. I would imagine it was REALLY hard though on him watching her date other people - even if they were in an open relationship. Funny - usually I think of women as being more emotionally attached to one person - but I think Oscar was more attached to her - and definitely in love!

He'd HAVE to have convinced himself that he couldn't have more of a relationship with her in order to survive. It's hard watching someone you love be with someone else...

And being a man of integrity, Oscar had to have felt torn about his feelings for Jaime, since she had once been so close to one of his best friends.

I thought he said "vacation". "Hot date" is certainly more apt and much funnier - considering what a terrible date he proves to be that evening - glowering morosely into his glass! Of course I liked it that he wasn't turned on by all those gruesome dancing girls.

That scene is a great moment between them. They seem very tuned into each other, and quite smitten.

The problem I have with Jaime and Oscar having a romantic relationship - where it's agreed that neither of them is in the right place at the right time - is that I can't imagine how they could be casual about it! Or break it off! Or hang around with gruesome motorcycle stunt men when there was such a lovely alternative waiting back in DC!

The trip to LV wasn't much of a vacation or a hot date. I would not have been quite as understanding as Jaime after waiting 2 hours while he was on the phone. On top of that was his behavior during the show. I certainly would not have agreed to blow off the rest of the evening by going undercover as a favor to him.

I still wonder what was in all their minds about the relationship between the 2 characters. The state of their relationship was certainly presented in a confusing way. I can see how people do not believe they had a relationship.

I agree. It seemed they were keeping all options open. It was very confusing especially the third season with Jaime and Oscar close one episode and then the next she was with some guest star or Oscar had such a brief part. Very strange and no wonder no one is sure what was supposed to be happening. The last episode was the worst for that! What a terrible way to end it.

I think it was only confusing for those of us who saw it in the first place. A ton of people never ever thought of putting Oscar and Jaime together. They just don't see it.

I didn't really see it back then. Can definitely see the spark there now, although (you might not believe this) I still prefer Kenny J's original vision. :)
