I don't know - it's not like she's the main focus. I think creating a character to use as a vehicle to move the story along is fine. Anyone else?

I am not sure if she is too Pollyanna-ish...and am wondering if I should give her a small set of fangs!

Well, with her being a minor character, I don't think it matters TOO much. I mean, I like her already well enough - she seems real to me - I don't think you need to develop her personality to the extent you do Steve or Jaime.

I always interpreted 'Mary Sue' to be a character that was obviously a stand-in for the author.

I really had no idea that's what "Mary Sue" was supposed to be - then again, it took me forever to figure out what "shippers" were or "AU"... too much terminology :) So - B4E - IS Jenn supposed to be you - Mrs. Steve Austin??? IHBVK IHBVK IHBVK

A HIGHLY idealized version of the author. The girl who is just right in every way.

And what is a "what if" anyway?

When I was doing 'What-ifs', they were stories that departed radically from canon. As in 'What if Steve never took Jaime skydiving?'

Wouldn't ALL of our stories be classified as "What-ifs?" It almost doesn't seem worth using as a classification. If you put Steve and Jaime together as a couple before the reunion movies that's a What-if, and if you put Jaime with Oscar it's also a what-if. Once again, if it's the kind of story that could fit in between episodes without disrupting the course of the actual TV series, I suppose it wouldn't be - but I'm not sure any of us has ever written one of those. Maybe the Lurker has?

True, but I only used 'What-If' for really drastic departures from canon. Then again, one of my 'What-Ifs' was about Michael turning psycho....so I guess I will scuttle off into the corner and bury my head now..... :D

Do you mean when you introduced the story as a "what-if"?

No...one of my What-Ifs was about Michael going psycho. Back then, I called stories What-Ifs if they severely departed from canon. But since then, I have written multiple Crazy-Michael stories that did not have "A What-If Story" as part of their title.

So....I have defied my own logic. 7654h
