Have you ever started out writing a story with the plot line firmly in mind...and the story steers itself in a totally different direction....?

A few times. Danger Island took on a life of its own & the proposal wasn't supposed to happen in my last episode but it just sort of showed up there.

Does this mean that Jenn & Oscar should be concerned? 432q18

Well.....probably not. But this was going to be a story mostly about relationships - new ones and changing ones...and about Rudy. The last few chapters just sort of took over the reins.

I'll have some that I think at first are going t be great, and then I just can't quite work the plot to make it plausible. Usually it's a fairly minor plot point, but it's enough to stall the whole works - VERY frustrating.

I've never had a story really do a left turn on me, (I don't write them sequentially, which may have something to do with that) but I usually change them somewhat in an a-ha moment late in the game. Isn't it sort of fun when it turns out to be something different?

It is fun! The ones I actually finish never turn drastically different, but I might have an interesting twist I didn't start out with, or maybe a few clever lines. That's what I think it fun - when I can come up with a clever or funny bit of dialog.

That happens to me all the time. I start out in faith that I know my plot and the darn characters change it without telling me!
