Just one thing , PineappleAngel :I think that it would be easier to read if you jump a line between two paragraphes. Bionika |

Ah! I didn't see that! I will indeed try to remember that! I always copy and paste from a word document and sometimes the formatting gets a little messed up! I'll make an effort to correct this in stories to come, Thanks!! |

Sitting in front of the TV, watching an old rerun of The Big Valley, eating a Heath bar, while wearing a pair of sturdy Lee Jeans, a NASA baseball cap, and a "Colt's" hoodie; all while a paperback copy of "Cyborg" lays nearby...ah...the perfect image of a true fangirl of the great Lee Majors.... | |

Indeed, the word presentation and the presentation on the thread are a little bit different. (Just have a look to my marvelous board coming from Excel and reworked in part "writting a post" posted in thread "Writers room. It's hard..." It has completely messed up
I also post my stories by "copying and pasting" the text I have typed as a word document. In order to improve the presentation I usually first, make the copy and post it. Then I read it on the site, note where there are mistakes or where it's necessary to jump a line and then I edit the post, correct types mistakes and add jumped lines for a best reading quality. That makes sense! I will definitely try to approve upon my editing, in relation to this, and possibly just format word to skip an extra line, every time you hit enter. |

I think that the result will be what we have with Rudywells1274's stories. In my opinion, I don't find it easy to read too. For me, a jump of line after each paragraph is enough (but it's only my opinion). Please don't reply now, I come back in a few minutes, I'm going to search search samples. Bionika |

Yes, I've checked the story now in progress and I think it's this presentation. |

The easiest way to achieve that extra line between paragraphs is when you're originally typing into Word, just get in the habit of hitting enter twice at the end of each paragraph. |

So if I want to put a break in between scenes or a shift in point of view can I use dashes, stars, asterisks or something like that? Does it matter how many you use or is there some special way to do it in order to not mess up all of the formatting? |

I've always used 3 for a change in location or time and 5 for the end of a chapter...but that is NOT set in stone. It's only my habit and personal preference. I have seen an author on another site separate his scenes like this: bionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwomanbionicwoman What you use is a personal preference, but I think it makes things a lot easier on the readers if (for example) Rudy is pacing angrily in his lab then you shift to Steve relaxing in his den, if you put something in between to denote that the scene has changed. Yes the readers will usually figure it out for themselves, buy why make them try when it's so easy to separate the scenes yourself? On some sites, with some Word programs, it seems to mess things up if you put 3 dashes '---' between your scenes. So, since I like to use the dashes, I put a space between the, '- - -' and have never had a problem.Again, the dashes are my personal preference; you could use asterisks, dollar signs...whatever you like. What works out best for me is (at the end of a scene, where you're about to use your dashes or whatever you've chosen), I double-hit Enter, like after the end of a paragraph, then I put in my - - - , then double-hit Enter again. This is what works best for me, when typing my story into a Word Program to later be copy/pasted into our forum. |
