I rarely comment on stories on the other site.
The same for me.

Hey, readers and writers (and adminitrator and moderators), we may open a thread about stories' presentation in the writers room (or transfer this chat)?

Just one thing , PineappleAngel :I think that it would be easier to read if you jump a line between two paragraphes.

I'll make an effort to correct this in stories to come
You still can do it for this story by editing your post.

Indeed, the word presentation and the presentation on the thread are a little bit different. (Just have a look to my marvelous board coming from Excel and reworked in part "writting a post" posted in thread "Writers room. It's hard..." It has completely messed up @#$ ?>< :( ;) :D

I also post my stories by "copying and pasting" the text I have typed as a word document.
In order to improve the presentation I usually first, make the copy and post it. Then I read it on the site, note where there are mistakes or where it's necessary to jump a line and then I edit the post, correct types mistakes and add jumped lines for a best reading quality.

You can also use the Preview button before you hit Post, to see how things look.

For me, a jump of line after each paragraph is enough ...
..like in Bioni4ever stories.

Bionika
Alrighty then!!! Will comply if I remember!
Sitting in front of the TV, watching an old rerun of The Big Valley, eating a Heath bar, while wearing a pair of sturdy Lee Jeans, a NASA baseball cap, and a "Colt's" hoodie; all while a paperback copy of "Cyborg" lays nearby...ah...the perfect image of a true fangirl of the great Lee Majors....

I've seen that you have tried a mix of it on the story. Thank for this reworking.

Personally, I definitely prefer the "paragraph per paragraph" presentation; but let's hear what other readers have to say about stories presentations.

Yes, I know ...But I'm so afraid that my post will diseappear (I know, it's completely silly because it can't and even it diseappear I still have my word version on computer but it's like that) that I prefer to post it and then edit it.

Truly, I did not do any editing/formatting at all! That was all the great work of down30 who read our conversation! I did not rework it, though as I'm typing a new story, now I am indeed hitting enter twice after every new paragraph. Update on my stories: New chapter(s) of Dr. Wells is Missing...Again are written, but need to be typed, and I will have my first chapter of Part 3 up I HOPE by Tuesday night... I hope to have it done, tonight...but I'm not sure...I'm working on a little story, right now, based on events from a couple of episodes of a show in which Lee guest starred in, Tour of Duty... the story is a real tear jerker, talking about Pop and his relationship with his son, Robbie (played by Lee Jr) and Pop's (Lee) reaction to Robbie's death in 'Nam. Also will probably show the missing scenes of Pop escorting the body home, and his wife's reaction to the body. I'll try for that tonight...but if not, then there won't be anything till Tuesday, as I am not going to have internet access for two days...well...maybe small bits, to post responses, or reviews...but not enough to type and post a new story/chapter, though I WILL be writing!
Thanks again, bionika for confronting me on my formatting!

I will delete my first post on this thread saying this :
"I rarely comment on stories on the other site. The same for me."
because it had no link with the topic formatting texts of our stories.

It was just here before we began to chat about stories presentations.

yuh

So, readers, how to you prefer the presentation of the stories?

And you, writers why have you chose this kind or the other kind of presentation?
Do you think that it's better to jump lines in dialogs?....
Do you think that it's better to jump a line and add "---------", then jump again a line when you change places/characters in a story (for instance between your depiction of Oscar's though about an assigment and your depiction of what Jaime/Steve is living during the assigment)
Or do you let things going on without interfering in when you post?

I write my stories in Open Office (a program similar to Word). I have long since acquired the habit of double-hitting the Enter button after each paragraph - even if that paragraph is someone speaking. That way, when I copy/paste into the Post box here, it is already in a format that's easy to read and I don't have to worry about putting in paragraph breaks when I put it here.I also double-hit Enter at the end of each paragraph when posting on a thread such as this one. Just makes it easier for me...and easier for the reader to read it.

I always use the Preview button before hitting Post because - for me - it is much easier to edit when I can view the entire chapter with the posting box still beneath it (and thus don't have to shift back and forth to Edit in order to make any needed changes).

This is how I've discovered works best for me. Some people might find it easier to type in the paragraph-break format as they go. But for me, especially when posting story chapters, the Preview key is simply invaluable.

And I always type in 3 dashes - - - when the scene shifts from one location to another, and 5 dashes at the chapter's end. Just my personal quirk, the way I've chosen to do it - but I see a lot of the same over on fanfiction. net.

I think it's very useful for the understanding of the story.
