Warning : This little story doesn't belongs to "my" Bionic woman's 4th season.
I've just made a break in it, the time to fill in some blanks...
As I'm sometime very busy reading and commenting the NaNoWriMo stories, I don't promise you to post a chapter per day as usual.
But let's begin by the prologue :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like usual, Oscar has fallen asleep circa 1 a.m.
Like usual, during this particular evening, instead of reading files he had looked at old photo albums.
Like usual during the night of 7th December he was dreaming about his brother Sam.

Before, Oscar’s dreams were sad and full of anger but since a little more than thirteen years; since he could have mourning him thank to Jaime’s help, they were peaceful.
Like before, he was “seeing” Pearl Harbor events but now he could add country’s gratitude: Sam’s (their) name cleared, the military honors, the flag on the casket, the state funerals on sea…

Suddenly Oscar was roused of his dreams by little quick repeated knocks at his door and a frightened and panic-stricken women voice saying “Help me!”

She took her husband’s hand like in order to have more strength and dare asking this very personal thing to the person who was few hours ago only their landing neighbor, near a stranger and who deserve now to be part of their family.
She finally asked: “Er…Mr Goldman, we would be very happy if you accept to be godfather of our child.”.
Oscar was taken aback. He kept quiet for a while.
He had no family now and no hope for having wife and children so he would be very pleased to have some relatives.
But he wasn’t a religion’s man. In fact work was his religion and he has neither Sundays, nor Sabbaths.
How could he answer without deceiving them?

Finally he said slowly: “I think it would not be possible, I’m not very fond of religions”. Seeing their sad faces, he added quickly: but I could be like his uncle”.
Their smile appeared again.
“Alright Uncle…by the way what’s your first name? “said Tom.
“Oscar…Uncle Oscar” replied Oscar.
Carla spoke then: “Would you accept if we give our son, your first name as middle name in order to have him remember the person who has saved him even before his birth?”
Oscar smiled and replied: “don’t ask why but if you want him to remember who has saved him, please don’t give him as middle name Oscar but Samuel or Sam”.
“Ok” replied Tom. Welcome to world, Jim Samuel Griffith”.

Since this night, Oscar began to interest in his neighbors and particularly to their child.
As he knew, or more exactly feeling it, the young Jim Samuel run up to Oscar each time he was seeing him. Oscar was astonished; usually he rather had made children run away by his seriousness.
Jim helped Oscar not to gets completely out of his “work world” but at least to take some breaks. When he was a little boy, sometimes, Oscar has taken him for playing to the park on Sunday. He interested in his school results, then to his sports performance. He gave Jim some advices and acted as his confidant when, as a teenager, he was rebelling against his parents.
Then O.S.I. took a big part in Oscar’s life; even so he managed at the beginning to pay a visit to Jim for his birthday, then at least to write to him.

After Jim parents’ plane crash, Jim had lived for a while with a remote aunt of his father until Oscar was ready to accomplish what Carla and Tom has wished in their will: taking care of Jim. Even if the young man was 24, as his late parents wanted to, Oscar adopted him, giving to Jim after his middle name, the name of Goldman.
But again, his work, O.S.I. had taken nearly all the place in Oscar’s life till Steve’s boat blast and his promise to now really take the time for Jim. This time, he kept his promise, being close to the young couple and helping them as many as he can.

Is Jim still alive?
The answer to your question is in the next chapter.
I'm surprised that you haven't reconized him.

After having gone into Oscar's dreams and past, back to 7th December 1990!
---------------------------------------------------------------
Oscar was awaken by the noise of a voice. It was Kate’s voice who was chuckling. “Look at him, young Jenna: your grand uncle is sleeping like a little baby. It would be him who should be in the crib! “
He opened his eyes and saw Kate, in a wheelchair. She was wheeled by Jim and has a baby wrapped in a light yellow blanket in her arms.

“Jim, you are here!” uttered Oscar.
The young dad laughed: “yes, I arrived two hours two hours ago. I went to this room to wait with you but you were so sound asleep that I didn’t had the heart to wake you up. So I headed to the delivery room and fortunately Kate’s doctors allowed me to attend to my daughter’s birth which was imminent if I promise not to pass out.
“Everything went well and he was very courageous” said Kate. “Uncle Oscar, could you take the baby in order to let me settle down on the bed?”
Oscar hesitated even if deep down, he was whishing for it a lot: Jenna seemed so tiny, so frail.
“Please” said Kate, holding out to him the baby.
Oscar accepted and took Jenna.

Jim helped Kate to sit on the bed, and then he turned toward Oscar.
“Thank for your help - again” he said. He added: And I hope that you will be for Jenna a great great-uncle as far as you have been a great uncle for me”.
Oscar didn’t answer but his look to Jenna and his smile were answering for him.

THE END.

I love how you kept to the theme throughout this story, showing how deeply affected Oscar was by those two little words...and why. Really enjoyed seeing this other side of him.
